LPN School 1.1 (Elementary Student)

The 1:1 School LPN/LVN identifies and treats health disorders among students in the school setting. The 1:1 School LPN/LVN provides instruction for the student’s general wellbeing and disease prevention. The School LPN/LVN monitors the student’s physical conditions in the school setting and refers the student to appropriate resources as needed. The work of the School LPN/LVN is performed in compliance with his/her LPN/LVN scope of practice and according to state education codes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides first aid care and medically prescribed services
Maintains security of school health supplies and medication in the school setting
Provides follow-up evaluations on students as required
Corresponds with parents on health needs of children
Records immunizations, health findings, and other relevant health data
Identifies abnormal growth and development, symptoms of disease and discuss with parents
Develops and maintains health records on students
Develops positive working relationships
Supports student medical needs during transport as applicable
Minimum Requirements:
Current LPN/LVN license for the state in which the nurse practices
Current PPD or Chest X-Ray
One year prior professional nursing experience in school setting preferred
Pediatric experience preferred
Current BLS card
Considerable knowledge of medical disorders and treatment
Considerable knowledge of child growth and development
Some knowledge of public health problems and procedures for treatment in coordination with other health and social service agencies
Some knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations affecting the delivery of school health services
Understands the school organization and the community served
Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
Computer proficiency preferred
Must be at least 18 years of age
