SUMMARY:Responsible for ensuring vessels are crewed, operated and maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements, company standards, and customer expectations. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Implement standard procedures and guidelines for the operation of a safe and environmentally sound fleet. Ensure all vessel personnel comply with regulatory training requirements. Assist in the development and adherence of the operational budgets. Investigate vessel damage, product spills, and personal injuries. Ensure all appropriate authorized and company personnel are notified and that proper documentation is completed accurately. Supervise licensed and unlicensed personnel, and crew management development. Inspect vessels to ensure seaworthy condition and arrange for maintenance and repair activities to correct any deficiencies. Arrange for coordination of assist tugs, pilots and crew care as necessary. Provide technical expertise for specialized jobs in the field. Direct supervision of union and non-union vessel personnel. EDUCATION:Bachelors degree from a Maritime Academy with an USCG License. At least 10 years in the maritime industry may substitute for a degree. EXPERIENCE:5 or more years as a sailing officer or academy graduate with 2 years sailing. Preference given to individuals with tug and barge experience. TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY:Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook and Word. COMPETENCIES:Ability to apply skill sets and demonstrate proven experience developing, improving and streamlining processes to meet established goals and objectives. Ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope. OTHER:May involve travel to multiple locations with extended stays away from the homeport. Valid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) credential is required. Also, subject to Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check to obtain your driving history. JOB SCOPE:Position impacts multiple business units/segments. WORKING CONDITIONS:Works both inside an office environment and outside in conditions of both high and low temperatures. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment. Must be able to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom and be able to climb ladders. May require extended use of computer keyboard and viewing of computer monitor and ability to sit for long periods of time.
