POSITION SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for managing the individualized patient care by promoting and restoring patients health through the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; and supervising assigned team members.
Administers conscious sedation medication to Endoscopy patients per organizational policy and procedures. Provides technical assistance to the physician during the Endoscopic procedure and ensures the Endoscopic suite is adequately prepared for the procedure. Monitors PAR levels of the Endoscopy equipment and supplies. Cleans and sterilizes the Endoscopic scopes and equipment as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs endoscopy procedure set up, including physician preference and expectations. Tests equipment for proper functioning and availability. Assists the RN/Physician with proper positioning of the patient.
Maintains standards and principles of asepsis. Demonstrates proper aseptic technique in handling equipment and supplies. Handles, cleans, and disinfects scopes properly.
Compliance of Universal Protocol, including procedural Time-Out participation and labeling solutions/medications on the sterile field.
Handling of specimens, including proper labeling, transport, and logging of specimens in the lab.
Medication safety with proper patient identification, hand hygiene, medication reconciliation, patient medication education.
Documents patient condition, assessment findings, and physical/psychosocial responses to nursing intervention and progress towards problem resolution.
Initiates emergency resuscitative measures according to adult resuscitation and advanced life support protocols.
Maintains confidentiality as well as providing care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the patient’s and family’s diversity, preservingtheir autonomy, dignity and rights.
NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
Perform other duties as assigned.
Maintains current competency in nursing specialty by completing mandatory education.
Inspect the facilities and act to maintain excellent hygiene and safety (decontaminating equipment, sanitizing surfaces, preparing beds etc.).
REQUIRED/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION :
-Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN). Degree received from an education institution accredited by National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
EXPERIENCE :
– Previous experience in an acute care setting.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION :
-Current and in good standing RN Licensure with South Carolina Board of Nursing.
-American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required to be initially completed with the TH Organizational Development Office within 30 calendar days of hire date (exceptions to obtain certification from a provider other than the TH Organizational Development Office are approved by TH Organizational Development on a case-by-case basis). BLS & ACLS Recertification is required every two (2) years.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES :
-Works with patients, families, physicians, and other health care providers.
-Must be proficient in using Electronic Health Record (EMR) for patient-level care and coordination.
-Must possess excellent verbal communication skills.
-Must have ability to collaborate with others to improve quality and address needs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION :
-Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). Degree received from an education institution accredited by National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
EXPERIENCE :
– Endoscopy or Operating Room (OR) experience.
Physical Requirements : Medium Physical Agility Test (PAT) Rating
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
