Colbert County Commission will be accepting employment applications for Litter Crew Operator/Part Time at Sheffield Career Center.

Job Summary
Under the direction of the Solid Waste Litter Crew Driver/Foreman, the employee is responsible for clearing litter/debris from the county roadsides and ensures all safety procedures are followed.
Job Domains
A. Litter Crew Operator/Part Time

– Assist with other workers in roadside cleanup.
– Ensures all safety equipment is worn and set up properly before cleaning is performed.

B. Road Cleanup

– Rides with Driver/Foreman and other employees on county roads to road sides or other areas with litter and other debris to pick up.
– Sets up safety cones and signs.
– Removes cans, bottles, tires and other litter/debris from roadside.
– Places bagged debris onto trailer for unloading at the landfill.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

– Knowledge of safety rules, including accident causation and prevention.
– Reading skills to read road signs, determine supplies needed.
– Ability to communicate effectively with foreman, supervisors, co-workers and the general public.

Other Characteristics

– Possess a high school diploma or equivalent and three to four years of experience in a similar job performing tasks; however, any combination of education and experience which provides the necessary qualifications will be considered.
– Possess a valid Alabama Drivers License.

Work Environment
The work environment involves high risk with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environment stress which may require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g. working under extreme weather conditions, subject to physical attack of mob conditions, or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled.
Physical Demands
The work may require some physical exertions such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; recurring lifting moderately heavy items such as materials, record boxes and equipment. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above average agility and dexterity.
