FT Day shift PCNA – Medical Intensive Care Unit – Unit Information: The Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at Fairview Hospital is a 26-bed nursing unit that provides treatment to patients suffering from various medical problems. Typical patient diagnoses are sepsis, respiratory, DKA, suicide monitoring, overdose monitoring, post-cardiac arrest hypothermia, altered mental status and stroke. Some of the most common procedures performed by the nursing staff in Fairviews MICU, include bronchoscopy, endoscopy, emergent intubations and central line placements. The caregivers within Fairview Hospitals MICU diligently collaborate with one another to provide world-class care for their patients. The unit is known for its great teamwork and ongoing educational in-services as well as equipment reviews, which are designed to maintain equipment competence. Typical unit equipment includes ventilators, continuous renal replacement therapy, intra-aortic balloon pumps, cooling units and pumps for different drips. A caregiver in this position works 7:00AM- 7:30pm. A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.

Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.

Assist with keeping patients rooms clean and orderly. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

A high school diploma or GED.

Nursing students: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).

Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered. Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it during your new hire period.

Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.

Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
