DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan is one of the nation’s largest hospitals specializing in rehabilitation medicine and research. RIM is known for its clinical expertise in spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, amputee, orthopedics and catastrophic injury care. The Institute houses the Center for Spinal Cord Injury Recovery and the Southeastern Michigan Traumatic Brain Injury System (SEMTBIS), one of only 16 federally designated model systems of care for brain injury care and research. Discover Rehab Nursing at RIM – YouTube Job Summary Under general supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, in compliance with legal aspects of patient care activities and guidelines that impact practice, and according to established policies and procedures, administers and progresses established treatment plans for physical therapy patients.
- Works as a team with the Physical Therapist to schedule patients, instruct and prepare patients for treatment, perform treatment programs such as gait training/therapeutic exercise programs/physical therapy modalities, and when appropriate, provides documentation of patient progress.
- Observes patient during treatment and notifies appropriate therapist of any problems or concerns. Transfers patients to stretchers, assists patients into wheelchairs, and takes patients to assigned destination in a timely manner.
- May feed or assist patient with feeding him or herself in accordance with established protocol.
- Prepares and monitors equipment such as hydrotherapy tanks, paraffin baths and hot packs, and performs minor repair on equipment, as needed.
- Maintains department equipment in a clean, safe condition.
- Cleans and maintains orderly, well-stocked treatment area.
- Conducts community service projects and administers programs to community centers and on-site staff.
- Performs various clerical duties as required including greeting and registering patients, answering telephone, maintaining department records, photocopying, ordering and replenishing supplies, and so forth.
- Performs other direct patient care activities as assigned.
- Assists with research projects by abstracting/collecting research data from various sources and assisting in literature reviews concerning research topics.
- Participates in community education activities.
- All duties/responsibilities are performed under the general supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.
Qualifications
:
1. Bachelors degree in exercise-related studies with coursework in human physiology and anatomy in order to gain knowledge of therapy treatment and techniques, or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
2. Currently enrolled in a Physical Therapy doctoral program.
