Position Overview: The Lake County 911 Central Dispatch (LCCD) operates 24/7, and applicants must be flexible to work any shift, including weekends, holidays, and overtime. Full-time employees typically work 84 hours over a two-week pay period (80 hours straight time plus 4 hours overtime). Shifts are 12 hours long, with a schedule of two days on followed by two days off. Opportunities for additional overtime may arise after training is completed.

Key Responsibilities:

– Perform telephone call intake and respond to requests for assistance by dispatching emergency personnel according to established protocols and procedures.
– Maintain communication with callers and responders to gather and relay necessary information.
– Provide emergency medical instructions as required.
– Supply warrants or other pertinent information to public safety personnel upon request.
– Address callers complaints or non-emergency requests by offering information or referrals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

– Proficient typing skills with a minimum accuracy of 40 words per minute.
– Exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with callers in stressful situations, provide detailed instructions, and collaborate with responders and colleagues.
– Ability to remain calm under pressure, focusing on critical tasks while managing excited or distressed callers. A professional demeanor and authoritative command are essential for maintaining control during emergencies.
– Strong analytical skills to quickly assess the nature of emergencies, determine appropriate responses, and adapt to changing situations. Proficiency in reading and interpreting maps and detailed policies to give precise directions or instructions is required.
