Staff Attorney

STAFF ATTORNEY – ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT UNIT
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI

The Economic Development Unit of Legal Aid of Western Missouri is seeking a full-time attorney for its Paseo Office in Kansas City, Missouri. The attorney will work with inner-city neighborhood associations and local non-profit community development corporations on targeted inner-city community improvement initiatives. This position will focus heavily on real estate transactions and civil land-use litigation with the target outcomes being blight remediation, affordable housing preservation, and community re-investment. This position requires significant interaction with Kansas City neighborhoods, so local travel and some evening and weekend work will be required.

The qualified candidate must have the following:

– Active Missouri Bar license or eligible for licensure in Missouri through reciprocity
– Computer proficiency
– Excellent written and oral communication skills
– Desire and commitment to assist in the delivery of high-quality legal assistance
– Ability to speak a second language, preferred, but not required
– Courtroom experience preferred
– Experience handling community development cases is preferred, but not required

Salary: $65,000 DOE
