Director of Maintenance

Tarrytown Rehabilitation & Nursing Center

Position Purpose: Ensures the smooth running of the facility by performing a variety of duties in and around the facility. May do small repairs such as plastering, painting, carpentry, and minor electrical and plumbing repairs. Does work on the facility grounds as needed and ensures that all equipment is properly maintained and functioning. Required to be on call for maintenance-related emergencies.

Educational Requirements: High school graduate or GED required.

Experience Required: General maintenance and repair experience required, prior experience working in maintenance or as a Maintenance Director preferred.

Physical Requirements: While preforming the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk and hear, and use hands and arms to handle items, lift, feel, and reach. The employee is frequently required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb and balance on a step ladder or ladder.

Professional Licensure and Certification Required: N/A Must have valid driver’s license

Interpersonal Relationships: Communicates effectively with residents, families, visitors, co-workers, physicians, and other employees.

Essential Functions

Must operate machinery and equipment, maintain in good repair, and store in an orderly fashion.

Be able to handle and use simple electrical and plumbing equipment and make minor repairs.

Be able to carry, push, and pull large equipment in and out of facility.

Ensure that facility grounds are neat and in order.

Run errands as needed for supplies—requires driving a motor vehicle.

Follow a Preventative Maintenance schedule to ensure the proper care and functioning of essential equipment in the facility.

Participates in inspections (surveys) conducted by authorized agencies.

Participates in quality assurance and improvement processes within the facility.

Demonstrates the mission, vision, and values of the facility through professional excellence.

Staff Development Functions

Attends departmental meetings as scheduled to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or improvement of services

Attends and participates in scheduled training and educational classes.

Attends and completes all mandatory in-service programs.

Safety and Infection Control

Follows established protocol during fire drills and disaster training.

Conducts fire and disaster drills per federal requirements and maintains records of all drills.

Follows established universal precautions and infection control policies and procedures when performing daily tasks.

Ensures that all work and resident care areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.

Resident Rights

Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information.

Knowledge of facility and state mandatory reporting practices regarding any suspected cases of abuse, mistreatment, or neglect

Report all grievances/complaints made by the resident to your supervisor/Administrator/DNS immediately

Ensures that all residents are treated fairly with kindness, dignity, and respect if repairs are warranted in resident rooms.
