Unit Clerk – Nursing Unit 2W – Part Time

Position Summary:
Is responsible for performing secretarial, receptionist and clerical duties on the nursing units, under the direction and supervision of the nurse in charge and/or the Assistant Director of Nursing.
Experience:
Excellent telephone and interpersonal communication skills required.
Experience working with IDX System, EPIC EHR, and Lab Computer Systems preferred.
Computer skills using Windows based programs and keyboarding skills required.
Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Excellent time management skills. Excellent Customer Service Relations required.
Able to organize and handle multiple tasks effectively and consecutively.
Essential Functions:
Immediately greets all who approach the unit desk, receives visitors, customers, co‐workers in person or on the phone with courtesy using appropriate customer service etiquette. Uses computer efficiently: • Enters labs, and other patient care testing into the computer accurately. • Knowledgeable in tests that require patient to be NPO. • Patient reports are immediately filed into correct patient chart. • Ensure that daily patient charges are entered accurately and within established time‐frame. Coordinates all necessary unit maintenance repairs. Prepares orders and maintains unit supplies. Orders dietary supplies, late trays and guest trays as directed by charge nurse. Flags daily lab work, patient tests and point of care testing. Maintains confidentiality following all HIPPA guidelines. Uses the Strive For Five customer service guidelines: • Wear name badge • Introduces self • Escorts patients and visitors • Pick‐up things on the floor • Asks “Is there anything else I can do for you?” Completes required chart documents. Assists nurses with clerical duties on the unit. Answers patient lights/intercom, communicates all patient messages. Assembles and completes information on patients chart, stamps all chart documents with addressograph. Inserts additional forms as needed on a daily basis. Is knowledgeable in chart order, and prepares discharged charts for medical records. Performs floor unit clerk duties on uncovered unit. Makes rounds to Lab and Pharmacy and distributes supplies to each unit if needed. Runs for STAT medications in Pharmacy. May be required to float. Fosters team work approach by helping with duties for which you are qualified. Participates and actively supports P.I. activities. Completes Mandatory Nursing Education annually. Attends department meetings monthly (read minutes of department meeting if unable to attend). Displays positive attitude/working relationships toward all internal and external customers. Willing to accept additional responsibilities and duties related to the operation of the department as permitted. Schedules benefit time appropriately. Transcribes physician orders accurately and is knowledgeable in med, lab tests and physician routine. Provides timely notification for absence or tardiness (4 hours for 3‐11 and 11‐7, 1 hour for 7‐3). Arrives on time at start of scheduled shift and returns promptly after breaks and lunch. Consistently strives to be an effective and productive member of the department and of the organization. Maintain a neat and orderly work environment. Including but not limited to Nurse’s Station, Utility Rooms and linen closet. Functions with autonomy but knows when to ask appropriate questions. Secures medical records from previous admission. Incorporates prior DNR documentation in new record. Must be knowledgeable in the use of computers and fax machines. Remove discharged and transferred patients from IDX appropriately and timely. Prepares chart for transfer to another facility and prepare discharge charts. Incorporate all loose filing, information from bedside chart and returns record to Medical Records within required time frame. Ensures that physicians/nurses are aware of all labs before filing.
The pay range for this position $15.91-$23.81/hour
