POSITION DESCRIPTION: Assistant/Associate Professor, Appointment Stream, Full-Time 12 month faculty member in the Doctor of Chiropractic Program DCP, Department of Community Health Services and Rehabilitation Science, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh.
CONTENT AREA: Applicants with a focus on foundational sciences in the discipline of Physiology and its related fields Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology. The ideal candidate will have a history of teaching excellence in healthcare education preferably chiropractic education and work well with colleagues across the entirety of the educational program. This position will collaborate with other clinical and basic science faculty to develop clinical cases and emphasize basic science foundational concepts. It will also participate in the development and review of formative and summative assessment items. The ideal candidate should have experience in multiple disciplines with clinical relevance, including:
Physiology and Clinical Physiology
Biochemistry
Microbiology
Molecular Biology
Neuroscience
Immunology

Position Rank/Classification:
The position is open at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, and the assigned rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop Curriculum: oversee the development and integration of content related to Physiology, including the development of clinically relevant narratives and various assessment tools, including but not limited to National Board of Chiropractic Examiners NCBE style multiple choice questions and assessment of student performance in active learning sessions.
Teach/Instruct/Facilitate: actively engage in student instruction, developing and delivering content using active learning methodologies. Collaborate with faculty colleagues to create, deliver, and pre-record flipped classroom content. Facilitate small and large group active learning. Serve as a facilitator for small group discussions such as case-based learning and other small group sessions.
Assessments/Evaluations: create learning objectives related to respective foundational sciences and map them to the curriculum. Use appropriate metrics and assessment methods to ensure that students meet those objectives. Work collaboratively with faculty and staff for continuous quality improvement of courses, sessions, activities, and assessments.
Serve: participate actively in leadership and group memberships within the chiropractic program such as curriculum committee, admission committee, etc.
Grow Professionally: Participate in professional development programs to enhance teaching, education, and other skills needed to execute their responsibilities.
Other: perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctoral degree DC, DC/PhD, MD, DO, PhD, or equivalent with specific training and experience in Physiology or a closely related field
Preferred Work Experiences and Qualifications:
Greater than two years of experience in an accredited chiropractic educational program with a concentration in Physiology and/or a closely related fields
Demonstrated experience and expertise in chiropractic and/or medical education, including curriculum development, formulating and editing assessment tools, and delivery in the field of Physiology and related disciplines
Experience designing, delivering, and evaluating an integrated foundational science course
Comfort with an array of educational technologies and active learning methodologies
Understanding of different assessment methods
Experience with different adult learning methods e.g., Cognitive Based Learning CBL, Problem-Based Learning PBL, Team-Based Learning TBL, simulations, etc.
