Laboratory Research Technician
The University of Pittsburghs Renal-Electrolyte Division is seeking a highly motivated Research Technician to provide research support in a urinary tract system-focused laboratory.
The ideal candidate should be able to perform a variety of laboratory and animal experiments after provided training. Analyzes and interprets data, compiles results, and prepares reports. Maintains inventory, ordering, and logs. Operates and properly maintains equipment. Trains undergraduates, junior lab members, and summer students.
We encourage candidates with combination of education and experience as well as possess problem-solving skills and ability to exercise judgement in a variety of situations, but will be under the direct supervision of the PI. - Candidates have the option of including prior research/publications/abstracts within their submission. Job Summary
Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
Essential Functions
The ideal candidate will have experience with standard molecular biology and biochemistry techniques including Western Blot, DNA-gel electrophoresis, RT-PCR, immunohistochemistry, co-immunoprecipitation, ELISA, cell culture and cell transfection, etc.
Experience with mouse model of disease i.e. UTI, management of mouse colony, mouse genotyping using PCR and gel electrophoresis are preferred but training will be provided.
Experience with all basic histology and immunohistochemistry procedures: grossing, processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining are highly desirable.
Excellent verbal and written skills, attention to detail, and precise record keeping is expected.
Position will manage ordering and management of lab supplies including reagents and mice, and train undergraduates, junior lab members, and research technicians.
Physical Effort
Moderate physical effort required. May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time. May be required to move objects up to 50 pounds with or without assistance of equipment.
