JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Department of Food Science is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar for collaborative research related to the chemistry and underlying function of various compound groups in fermented beverages. The department boasts a strong interdisciplinary collaborative environment among faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students and also enjoys close ties with faculty in the Penn State Huck Institute of Life Sciences, Department of Nutrition, Department of Plant Science, Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Research, and the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Projects will relate to wine and beer with a potential focus on understanding tannin, polysaccharides, thiols, and other functional chemical categories within these beverages.

The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Food Science, Chemistry, or related fields. The ideal candidate will have experience with food chemistry, chromatography (HPLC, GC) and mass spectrometry (MS). Applicants should have a strong publication record, exhibit creativity in their work, and enjoy collaborative interactions. The position will initially be available for 1 year with renewal based on satisfactory performance and funding availability.
