BAE Systems is seeking to hire a Director of Commercial Marketing and Sales whose primary responsibility is to develop strategic initiatives in the following: commercial ship repair, structural fabrication, and related maritime adjacent markets. This individual will augment the BAE Norfolk Ship Repair Senior Leadership Team with the goal of increasing participation in these areas at our Norfolk Ship Repair location. We seek a professional skilled at identifying, creating and nurturing opportunities as we work to expand our maritime services portfolio. We desire a strategic thinker and leader who understands the commercial market space, proposal development, can speak to technical solutions, and knows the customer, competitors, products, services, and people for ship repair programs and other opportunities in the maritime business arena.
As the director of our commercial maritime market capture efforts, you will:
Assess market potential for the range of existing markets and develop a plan to penetrate and maximize opportunities to grow the commercial ship repair, structural fabrication, and related maritime adjacent markets.
Lead the senior leadership team to create a winning campaign within a commercial ship repair and/or other maritime services, win executable business, lead the pursuit from opportunity identification through transition to contract execution.
Own and implement the marketing and sales strategy, lead a matrixed team, manage key stakeholders and position our team to win work.
Assess market potential for existing markets and develop investment plans to penetrate new or lateral markets within commercial maritime services.
Lead the development and communication of proposal strategy, including pursuit analysis, bidding strategies, technical presentations, win themes, key points, and pricing. Manage and communicate with stakeholders internally and externally. Align plans with program and operations planning.
Manage all the pursuits through contract award. Understand and apply solid project management principles, gate reviews, color reviews, competitor intelligence analysis and strategy development.
Initiate proposal activities, presentations, and briefings. Recommend and monitor Internal Research and Development (IR&D) keyed to customer requirements. Manages and controls sales & marketing budgets and expenses through sound budgetary techniques.
Provide recurring reports to include weekly summaries of activities and status of opportunities, as well as specific response to data calls for recurring management reviews.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Bachelors Degree plus 10 years of relevant work experience or equivalent experience
Strong entrepreneurial spirit. Able to balance risk with reward and recommend and execute bold ways ahead
Strong working knowledge of Commercial Maritime marketing, sales and developing business opportunities
Proactive aptitude and desire to perform at a high level in a fast-paced environment
Experience with various contract types and pricing strategies, including competitor assessments
Demonstrated success in pursuing multiple opportunities simultaneously at various stages of the opportunity lifecycle
Ability and desire to build and document data-driven capture strategies and plans
Ability to develop strategic pricing strategies
Knowledge of customer community, relationships, and experience with procurement organizations
Ability to communicate (written/oral) with senior level executives
Ability to think strategically
Ability to negotiate effectively with customers, industry partners, and teammates
Experience in proposal development and business wining within the commercial maritime space
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Strong working knowledge of Ship Repair in the Commercial Maritime Industry
Experience with Ship Repair programs or operations
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $164000 – $278800
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
