ROLE SUMMARY

The Pfizer Intelligent Assistance Solutions (IAS) Team within the AI Data and Analytics (AIDA) organization is responsible for the products/platforms strategy of Machine Learning (ML), Natural Language Process (NLP) and Generative AI capabilities across the enterprise. Its mission is to innovate, develop, standardize and scale breakthrough GenAI/AI/ML/NLP solutions, products and platforms that enable Pfizer to connect digitally with all our customers.

We are looking for an AL/ML Engineer with strong experience evaluating, developing and support a variety of machine learning model types, along with various NLP data pipelines to co-create new AI products. You will need to apply state of the art GenAI/ML/NLP and full-stack software engineering techniques to enable end to end intelligent solutions for unique business problems. You will take on the role of Technical Product Owner for new products and lead the vision, strategy and service roadmap for each product. The ideal candidate will be passionate about AI in healthcare and stay up to date with the latest developments in the field.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Understand business challenges and develop strategy/roadmap to pilot and develop AI software products that help to achieve business goals.

Research, evaluate and develop standard patterns of use for various model types (i.e.: LLMs, SLMs, custom domain specific models).

Evaluate and standardize on model evaluation, validation, MLOps/LLMOps frameworks.

Experiment, develop reusable GenAI/ML/NLP based pipelines through a micro-services-based architecture.

Provide active hands-on technical guidance and leadership through the entire lifecycle of GenAI/NLP based development projects.

Present model outcomes in a business friendly and scientifically rigorous manner.

Managerial responsibility rotational colleagues, interns and contingent workers.

QUALIFICATIONS

Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Informatics, life sciences, physics, applied mathematics, statistics or related field.

5 years as a data scientist, machine learning or NLP engineer.

5 years working with different types of enterprise and real-world data sets – structured, semi-structured and unstructured data.

Deep hands-on experience with LLMs and GenAI concepts such as prompt engineering, RAG, GraphRAG, and fine-tuning.

Expertise in supervised and unsupervised Machine Learning and Deep Learning techniques, with emphasis on Natural Language Processing (NLP).

Experience with NLP libraries and technologies including Spacy, PyTorch & Deep Learning models.

Expertise in NLP feature engineering and modeling (e.g., text classification, entity recognition, dependency parsing), hyperparameter optimization, model selection and validation.

Experience with State-of-the-Art modeling techniques, such as transformers (e.g., BERT, GPT-N).

Proficiency in leveraging cloud-based machine learning resources such as those from Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud for model training and productization.

Strong understanding of Software Engineering and Agile Software Development Life Cycle principles.

Expertise with Python. Good proficiency with SQL, Scala, or Java.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment; with the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse audience.

Ability to multitask and lead several project workstreams in parallel.

Present and communicate effectively to senior leadership in non-technical manner.

Provides well-informed advice, typically within a specific technical specialization, ensuring that it is properly understood and appropriately exploited, to enhance the effectiveness of significant activities. Provides advice on technical aspects of ML/NLP/GenAI and ensures that relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices are applied correctly.

Technical Acumen:

Maintains knowledge of specific technologies provides detailed advice regarding their application, executes specialized tasks.

Thought Leadership & Advocacy:

Develop awareness of industry developments and best practices Provide thought leadership in emerging technologies as they relate to AI topics.

Presentation Skills:

Ability to develop visually simple and appealing PowerPoint presentations and be comfortable with articulating and communicating with the right authority and messaging to a broad range of stakeholders.

Ability to manage many parallel objectives and changing priorities.

Ability to work through ambiguous requirements

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

Ability to work across time zones to collaborate with teams in Asia, Europe, US (IST, GMT, EST and PST). Must be flexibility to work early or later to support project deliverables and stakeholders.

Work Location Assignment: Must be able to work from assigned Pfizer office 2-3 days per week, or as needed by the business.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $84,200.00 to $140,400.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizers Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
