Title and Summary

Director, Product Management

Director, Debit Product Management, North America Markets (NAM)

Overview

Debit is a significant source of NAM revenue and growth. The Debit Product Management team is focused on building superior products and solutions for Mastercard that are aligned with the needs of consumers, issuers, merchants, and acquirers. We expect US debit will keep growing at healthy pace, as the shift to digital and the growth of contactless continue to displace cash and checks. However, we also expect significant changes to the debit landscape, driven by recent regulation and new technology. To manage this landscape, we have developed a transformational strategy to be a disrupter while looking to preserve our existing debit business.

The Director, Debit Product Manager, will be part of the North American (NAM) product team responsible for driving growth in our debit business. This role will support the execution of our Debit Product Strategy by providing Best-in-Class Debit Product expertise to ensure the ongoing relevance of Mastercard in Debit.

Role:

• Data Analysis & Performance Optimization: Analyze data related to debit routing, both for single and dual message networks, to drive performance improvements and optimize approval rates. Develop actionable insights to enhance transaction routing.

• Strategic Partnership Management: Collaborate with Deal Management and Account Management teams to craft and negotiate incentive agreements and identify opportunities to drive net revenue growth from debit transactions.

• Value Proposition Development: Build and communicate a compelling value proposition for increasing transactions to our network. Prepare and deliver presentations that highlight the benefits and efficiencies of choosing our debit networks.

• Market Insight & Regulatory Awareness: Stay informed about the evolving debit landscape, including regulatory changes, technological advancements, and competitive dynamics. Apply this knowledge to inform product strategies and drive business outcomes.

• Communication Development: Create and develop effective communications that convey our debit strategy and its benefits to both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clarity and alignment with business objectives.

• Stakeholder Experience Analysis: Understand and analyze the end-to-end experience of all stakeholders—including cardholders, merchants, acquirers, and issuers/issuer processors—to influence our product roadmap and maintain a competitive edge.

• Performance Monitoring: Develop and maintain a comprehensive scorecard to monitor key performance indicators related to debit acceptance. Proactively identify performance challenges and implement corrective actions to drive usage and revenue.

All About You:

• Expertise in the Debit Ecosystem: Demonstrated knowledge of the U.S. debit landscape, including Dual Message and Single Message systems, and understanding interchange impacts, particularly how they differ based on whether transactions are processed through regulated or unregulated banks.

• Analytical Skills: Proven ability to leverage data analytics tools to identify trends, assess performance, and make informed recommendations that align with business goals. Proficient in running reports, collecting data, and performing analysis to derive actionable insights.

• Advanced Microsoft Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to create detailed reports, dashboards, and presentations that effectively communicate findings and strategies.

• Effective Communication: Skilled at clearly and succinctly discussing complex debit solutions with various stakeholders, including customers, product teams, and technical teams.

• Customer Engagement: Experience in addressing and resolving transaction-related inquiries with a focus on urgency and customer satisfaction, ensuring smooth operational performance.

• Curiosity and Inquisitiveness: A strong drive to be endlessly curious about the business, continuously asking “why” to deepen understanding of processes and outcomes. This curiosity fuels innovation and informs strategic decisions.

• Collaborative Mindset: Ability to work effectively across functions and engage with diverse teams to drive initiatives and achieve strategic objectives.
