Position Purpose:

Participates with the interdisciplinary care team in the delivery of the patients plan of care under the immediate supervision of the RN/LPN, including assisting with OB procedures, providing hands on patient care, and reporting pertinent information to the appropriate team members. Facilitates the smooth operation of the nursing unit by coordinating non-clinical operations such as maintenance of patient charts and unit records, the efficient processing of unit information, and maintenance of unit supplies. Adheres to MercyOne’s performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of MercyOne.

What you will Do:

Assists with the maintenance and stocking of supplies, checking for outdated supplies, within established budgetary guidelines to promote cost effective patient care.

Integrates principles of Family-Centered care into practice

Provides clerical support for the department

Assists in the preparation of materials, supplies, and equipment required for surgical procedures to facilitate timely procedure start times and complete case set-ups.

Assists the nurse with the care of the patient to facilitate a positive experience throughout the patients stay.

Assists in the maintenance and handling of special instruments or equipment to facilitate continued availability for procedures.

Assists the surgeon during the surgical procedure to promote efficient and timely completion of procedure.

Demonstrates commitment to personal growth and competence to maintain knowledge of current procedures and new trends.

Adheres to all safety, infection control and colleague health policies and procedures.

Using his/her knowledge of the principles of growth and development and related needs, communicates and intervenes in a manner appropriate to the age of the patient served which includes:

Birth – 28 days Neonate

1 – 18 Months Infant

18 Months – 3 Years Toddler

3 – 6 Years Preschool-aged

6 – 12 Years School-aged

12 – 18 Years Adolescents

18 – 65 Years Adults

65 Years Geriatric

Hours/Schedule:

2, 12 hour shifts per week

3pm – 3am

Minimum Qualifications:

Verification (by transcript or certification) of successful completion of Nurse Aide I course; successful completion of Nursing Fundamentals course or successful completion of the Competency Test. Nurse Aide II-Advanced course is preferred and may be provided post-hire. In Home Health must have completed Nurse Aide I course.

Requires the ability to read, write and understand the English language, and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, staff and physicians while performing their job duties. Basic language, basic math, basic to intermediate reasoning ability. Basic computer skills required. Ability to work with diverse groups of people. Ability to work under pressure and in high stress situation/environment. Ability to take direction and work with accountability.

• Aseptic and sterile technique

• Good interpersonal skills to interact positively and effectively with patients, visitors, and hospital personnel

• Excellent organizational and communication skills, accuracy, confidentiality, and ability to work quickly in a fast-paced patient care area.

• Math skills to perform simple arithmetic calculations

• Observational and analytical skills to identify problems, analyze and react appropriately

• Familiarity with PC’s and other computerized patient care tools or demonstrated ability to learn.
