UX/CX Designer, Design System – Remote in US

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented designer to join our team and contribute to the Abyss Design System. This role requires a curious and growth-oriented mindset, as you will be instrumental in supporting continuous learning and innovation. You will build and maintain design guidelines, best practices, and standards, ensuring seamless integration and implementation across all products. As a trusted design partner, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, conduct regular audits and usability testing, and stay up-to-date with industry trends. Your keen eye for detail and focus on reusable components will empower our customers to build consistent interfaces, while your advocacy for user-centric design will ensure we solve the right problems effectively.

You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere (CST preferred) within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

Core Skills

Demonstrates curiosity and growth mindset contributing to Abyss Design System design that supports continuous learning and innovation, including visual style, UI components, and interaction patterns.

Build and maintain design guidelines, best practice design principles and standards

Be a trusted design partner in a cross functional team (designers, engineers, product, researchers, stakeholders etc.), to ensure seamless integration and implementation of the design system across all products

Collaborate and contribute to the design system governance process

Deliver designs on time and to the highest quality

Conduct regular audits and usability testing to ensure the design system meets user needs and maintains a high level of quality

Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in design systems and user experience design

Has a keen eye for detail with focus on reusable components and shared patterns to empower our customers to build consistent interfaces

Ensure designs adhere to industry best practices with balance of effectiveness and feasibility

UI Design

Partner with senior designers to execute all visual design stages from concept to final hand-off

Effectively communicates (plans, approach & progress/status of designs and design ideas)

Identify and contribute design system alignment with product designers with elements such as fonts, colors, graphics, menus, user buttons and images to maintain consistency in user experiences across App and web

Up-to-date with the latest UI trends, techniques, and technologies

Support our research teams in the design and fielding of research studies, then translate user needs and research findings into usable design system improvements and/or new opportunities

Continually advocate for the user and ensure there is a shared understanding of the problems we are solving (Be the voice of the user in prioritization, new products and features)

Creating multiple designs options and testing or modifying based on user feedback (A/B testing, user testing, etc.)

Required Qualifications:

2 years of hands of experience with information architecture, interaction design, UX design, design systems or graphic design

2 years of incorporating user feedback in the design process (user research, NPS, Voice of the customer)

2 years of experience with prominent industry design tools (Figma, Miro, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Axure)

1 years of experience working in cross functional teams

1 years of experience presenting to stakeholders, advocating for user-centric design

Understanding of front-end development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ReactJS) and their impact on design

Understanding of designing for Accessibility standards WCAG/508

Ability to travel for an onsite up to once time per year (as funding allows)

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to work across a matrixed multi-tiered organization and deliver the best possible outcomes

Experience with Agile product development

Healthcare experience

Knowledge in contributing to an enterprise design system

Mobile design experience

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable.
