Job Summary

Assists with the day-to-day function of the outpatient Electrophysiology (EP) Heart Rhythm Device Clinic (HRDC). This technologist will collaborate with the Device RN in order to provide continuity of care. Follows device protocols set by the Electrophysiologist based on industry standards related to interrogating, interpreting, and re-programming cardiac devices with minimal physician supervision. Remote evaluation of online information, retrieval and triage of that information, preparing reports for physician evaluation and approval for entry to the medical record. Troubleshoot critical device issues and take immediate steps toward resolution.

Job Duties

Evaluates, manages and provides support in the delivery of quality clinical care of patients with implanted cardiac pacemakers, defibrillator, and loop recorder devices. Demonstrates knowledge and function of devices and utilizes critical thinking skills.

Responsible for performing interrogations and necessary reprogramming of devices in patients who are scheduled in the office setting, including urgent walk-in appointments, according to type of device and patient needs.

Performs an independent daily review of remote transmission of devices implanted within patients. Correlates information with the clinical condition of patients to assist in the management of arrhythmias.

Evaluates and triages pacemaker and defibrillator reports, both routine and those sent with alerts. Completes reports for physician review and interpretation in MURJ system.

Assists with cardiac rhythm monitoring and data collection and provides ongoing device education to patients and families for all Pacemaker, ICD and Loop Recorder patients for both in office and remote monitoring device follow up.

Able to communicate critical findings to Device RN and/or the Electrophysiology physician directly for urgent needs.

Able to interpret arrhythmias, troubleshoot and reprogram settings of pacemaker / defibrillator according to patient’s needs and department protocols.

Ensure all in office charges are entered accurately daily to include correct diagnosis codes.

Additional monitoring duties may include telephone triage, reviewing medical history, and the ability to communicate critical events or findings to the nurses/physicians directly.

Position may require travel to outreach location locations to provide device clinic services.

Responsible for contacting patients in regard to any company recalls thus requiring closer and more frequent monitoring and taking appropriate measures for any further changes in the device that may be required.

Demonstrates flexibility by performing additional duties when and where indicated.

Position Details

IBHRE (International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners) certification preferred.

Education

Associates Degree-Related Field of Study (Required), Bachelors Degree-Related Field of Study (Preferred)

Experience

Minimum of 1 year-Related work experience (Preferred)
