JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State University Libraries invites applicants for the position of Part-time Evening Library Services Assistant at Penn State Schuylkill’s Ciletti Memorial Library. The person in this position will be a front- line provider of service and support to a diverse student body, as well as faculty, staff, and community borrowers.

The successful candidate will provide excellent personalized service to all library users, and possess a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. They must also demonstrate superior communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and also independently. Dependability, flexibility, a ccuracy , and attention to detail are critical to ensuring delivery of high-quality services. Confidence working with web-based applications and Microsoft Office products is expected.

This position is for approximately 20 hours/week. The selected candidate will work Monday-Thursday and cover the closing shift (until 8pm). Days and hours are subject to change according to library usage patterns and departmental needs (e.g., over breaks and holiday periods).

Responsibilities:

Provide front-line support to assist library users with common borrowing, information , and technological needs.

Oversee library space and perform closing duties.

Oversee student workers during assigned shifts.

Assist with outreach activities (e.g., planning, promotion, set-up, facilitation)

Other duties as assigned. As part of a small team, staff in the library are cross-trained to complete duties in other areas as needed. This position is expected to work collaboratively with University Libraries and Penn State Schuylkill colleagues and departments.

Required qualifications:

Typical educational requirement is an associate degree or higher plus one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to effectively and efficiently share knowledge with others through ora l and written communication.

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills that enable positive patron and colleague interactions as well as successful collaborations.

Demonstrated ability to learn new skills independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

High degree of reliability and accountability in managing tasks and responsibilities.

Keen attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in all aspects of work.

Preferred qualifications:

Previous library or public service experience is helpful but not required .
