Job Summary
Under the direction of the Manager, Procurement Operations and Compliance, the Procurement Operations Lead will play a pivotal role in driving the strategic direction of operational efficiency of Battelle’s Procurement Team. This position will focus on leading process improvements, implementing procurement tools and analyzing industry trends in procurement execution to ensure that the organization’s procurement processes and tools are efficient and compliant. This role requires a blend of procurement process expertise as well as program management acumen to lead complex projects requiring cross functional support.
This position is hybrid and is located near one of our offices in Chantilly, or Crystal City, VA or Columbus, OH.
Responsibilities
Lead Procurement Initiatives
Serve as the program manager for all procurement-related initiatives, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope and aligned with the business objectives.
Work closely with procurement team members and members of other functions to ensure successful execution by leveraging collaboration skills to guide, motivate and align teams towards common objectives without direct supervisory authority.
Develop detailed project plans to include clear timelines, deliverables, and resources needed to effectively manage each initiative.
Establish and maintain regular reporting mechanisms to track the progress of procurement initiatives, including updates on key milestones, risks and status.
Identify, assess, and track risks associated with the initiatives, ensuring proactive mitigation, avoidance or contingency strategies are implemented.
Ensure Initiatives are evaluated post-completion to identify lessons learned, best practices, and opportunities for improvement.
Foster a collaborative learning environment, encouraging the professional growth and development of others involved in procurement projects.
Metrics and Reporting
Collaborate on methods for collecting meaningful and accurate KPIs to demonstrate the procurement team’s operational success as well as areas for improvement.
Work with the Manager of Procurement Operations and Compliance to evaluate future areas of improvement for possible process changes / initiatives.
Key Qualifications
Bachelors degree; minimum of 4 years managing projects, with at least two years of procurement experience; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in a relevant field.
A PMP certificate and 2 years of managing projects is a reasonable substitute for the 5 years project management requirement.
