Duties and Responsibilities

This position is located at the Monroe County Health Department in Tavernier and Marathon and is responsible for WIC program administrative functions and providing direct client services. The primary duties include:

• Determines financial eligibility of clients for the WIC program based on income guidelines

• Documents proof of client identification, residency and physical presence in the FL WiSE data system per program policy

• Answers all phone calls for the Marathon and Tavernier WIC locations. Schedules appointments, answers questions about the program, and troubleshooting

• Collects and organizes medical data for final review by the dietitian for WIC medical/nutrition risk eligibility

• Performs height, length, weight measurements on WIC eligible clients using standard, approved

weighing/measuring techniques. Checks hemoglobin.

• Screens WIC clients immunization record per all nursing and public health department policies and documents immunization status in FL WiSE system per program policies

• Issues WIC benefits and maintains electronic WIC files

• Educates clients on program rules, using EBT cards and the Florida WIC app, regulations and benefit redemption

• Maintain significant understanding of FL WiSE data system

Completes monthly and quarterly administrative reports that help assess program compliance. Reports include but not limited to: voter registration, short certification, EBT card inventory, client eligibility, over issuance, dual enrollment, and access monitoring. Assists Program Manager and Breastfeeding Coordinator with other QA and reports as assigned. Uploads all reports into SharePoint for manager to review.

Assists administrative staff in Key West. Completes WIC eligibility for Key West clients on a second schedule one day a week. Provides coverage for Key West clinic as needed. Assists Key West clinic with Spanish speaking clients regularly.

Assists clients with referrals to other services as appropriate. Programs include Healthy Start, Medicaid, local provider offices, dental offices, and other healthcare needs. Receives all Healthy Start referrals for Tavernier and Marathon clients and all Spanish speaking clients. Provides Spanish Interpreter Services for WIC and other programs for the Monroe County Health Department.

Maintains countywide inventory of nutrition and breastfeeding materials/forms and orders supplies when needed.

Distributes supplies to clinics. Performs inventories and ensures offices are properly supplied with necessary WIC products and materials.

Performs outreach activities to local doctors, daycare, and community. Attends local community health fairs. Completes all mandatory training within required time frames. Performs other related duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of methods of data collection

• knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication.

• Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data relating to accounting, personnel, purchasing, and report writing.

• Ability to prepare correspondence and administrative reports.

• Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

• Ability to be flexible and adapt to new protocols and procedures within the WIC program.

Qualifications:

Must possess a valid, unrestricted Florida driver’s license at all times during employment and report any violation to their direct supervisor upon occurrence.

Emergency Duty: Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
