General Description

A Roll-off Driver, is a CDL Class “A” or “B” licensed operator, who is responsible for the safe operation of a Roll Off Container(s) carrying Commercial Motor Vehicle.

Essential Duties

Safe and Efficient operation of Roll-Off Container CDL Transport Vehicle; including operation on public and private roadways.

Hold valid Class ” A” or “B” CDL license and personal driving record within company MVR policy specifications.

Ability to visually and physically inspect the mechanical, safety and operational components, for operating defects; including completion of Pre/Post trip Driver Vehicle Inspection Report(s).

Responsible for notifying supervisor, immediately, if vehicle is in need of repair(s).

Knowledge of applicable USDOT & FMCSA safety regulations.

Visually interpret vehicle indicator(s) for fluid levels including oil, water and fuel.

Required to obtain and hold approved medical examiners certificate (FMCSR part 391.41), for duration of employment and in accordance with Class “A” and “B” CDL License requirements.

Must be able to operate a manual and automatic transmission vehicle.

Prepares/submits written and/or digital records of container drop offs/pick ups/transports.

Visually assess container content and, where applicable, secure/reposition/adjust contents, to ensure secured load, for safe transport.

Able to work day or night shifts as required

Communicates verbally, with Dispatch and/or Supervisor, on frequent basis.

Interpret and Follow Dispatched Routing/Map(s), for pick up and/or delivery of various sized material containers.

Other duties, as assigned.

Education and Experience. This position typically is not an entry-level job, as it requires demonstrable previous experience as a Roll-off Driver.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.

A minimum of three years (3) CMV Driving experience required.

Physical Demands. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Roll-off Driver to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Frequent sitting and driving a Commercial Motor Vehicle; using hands, arms and legs/feet to safely maneuver and control the vehicle using a steering wheel, turn signal, horn, foot pedals and other operational controls.

Periodic standing and walking on typically hard, level surfaces, to conduct visual assessments of pick/up and drop/off locations, of containers.

Stepping up/down, approx. 2’, using access step(s) and three points of contact to access/egress to/from the vehicle cab, periodically throughout the day.

Infrequent ability to manually push/pull/lift various construction materials, such as 2×4 boards and plywood located in containers, using provided hand tools/equipment, to ensure load is secure for transport; contacting dispatch with load securement concerns.

Periodic pulling of wire cable/latch (approx. <20lb pull), attached to vehicle winch and connect to container(s); used to pull container(s) onto flatbed of Roll Off Bed.

Infrequent push/pull/lift of various objects, weighing up to 50lbs, which are obstructing pick-up/drop off routes; objects too large to move, to be reported to dispatch for guidance.

Frequent vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Frequent ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (e.g., moving equipment, backing alarms, or other alarms, instructions/directions from supervisor and/or spotter).

Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Roll-off Driver encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

Work is predominately performed from the confines of the cab of a heated/cooled vehicle.

Driver periodically, throughout the shift, is exposed to outdoor weather related elements including sun, rain, hot and cold weather conditions.

Infrequent Driver exposure to common construction noises, at/below 80 decibels; for exceptions, drivers may be required to wear hearing protection, in accordance with company policy and procedures.

Infrequent Driver exposure to dust and other particulates, no greater than the OSHA permissible exposure limit; for exceptions, drivers may be required to wear facemask, in accordance with company policy and procedures.
