DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital is DMC’s largest hospital, offering a comprehensive heart center, cancer care, gerontology, emergency medicine, obstetrics/gynecology and cosmetic services. Sinai-Grace operates more than 21 outpatient care sites and ambulatory surgery centers throughout Wayne and Oakland Counties and is one of 10 hospitals in the nation to be awarded a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant to help set the standards of cardiac care for hospitals and physicians throughout the nation.
Job Description: Under general supervision, and according to established policies and procedures, performs non-invasive electrocardiographs (ECGs) to provide data to assist the physician in diagnosis and treatment. Able to attach and remove 12-lead ECG equipment in basic, right sided and posterior placement.
Attaches and removes Holter monitor to patient and instructs patient in proper maintenance of diary. Uses computer terminal to enter and retrieve data and performs related clerical duties as required including greeting and registering patients, answering telephone, maintaining department records, photocopying, ordering and replenishing supplies, and so forth.
Maintains equipment in clean and orderly condition; adjusts recording equipment as necessary and verifies accuracy of tracings. Able to perform basic troubleshooting of equipment to obtain quality tracing.
Reports malfunction to manager. Ensures necessary materials are available and informs manager of needed materials/supplies in a timely manner. Maintains competence in current ECG and Holter techniques and basic arrhythmia recognition practices.
Maintains current BCLS certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and assists in emergency procedures as directed by physician. Alerts nursing or professional staff to significant irregular or critical heart activity (e.g., ventricular ectopy). Performs other direct patient care activities as assigned.
Qualifications
:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Minimum of six months training or experience in ECG procedures.
3. Strong background in biological, physiological, and psychological sciences is preferred.
4. BCLS certification required (within 90 days of hire).
