Grant and Accounting Specialist
IN THIS ROLE:
You will manage accounting, budgeting, compliance, reporting, and reimbursement functions for Federal, State, and Local grants. This role requires excellent communication and collaborative skills as you will work with various departments and constituent district staff. We are looking for an independent worker that possesses analytical, forward-thinking, problem-solving skills and meets deadlines.
WHAT WE NEED:
– Reconciles expenditure data to detailed grant budgets and prepares accounting/financial reports.
– Develops and implements subrecipient monitoring program for Great Start Readiness Program grants.
– Requests grant reimbursements from local, state, and federal funding sources.
– Reviews ongoing grant expenditures, creates reports, analyzes transactions and ensures compliance with grant requirements and board policy, administrative rules and standard operating procedures.
– Reviews invoices, budgets and financial reports submitted by grant sub-recipients for compliance and advises appropriate personnel on appropriate corrective action.
– Identifies, recommends and implements process improvements related to assigned grants.
– Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of grant revenue and expenditure budgets.
– Creates grant budgets and amendments in the districts ERP system, and Nexsys system.
– Participates in preparation for the annual audit.
– Maintain current knowledge of generally accepted governmental accounting principles and practices.
– Provide project coordination/management on assigned projects.
– Assist in the development and maintenance of departmental standard operating procedures.
– Performs other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU NEED:
– Associates degree in accounting or bachelors degree in business or equivalent experience.
– Michigan School Business Officials (MSBO) Business Office Specialist certification preferred.
– Minimum of four years of experience in bookkeeping/accounting functions.
– Strong computer software skills with Microsoft Excel, Word, and ERP systems.
SALARY DETAILS:
$29.46 – $34.12 per hour based on relevant prior work experience, with the potential of earning up to $36.73 hourly after employment with Oakland Schools. Non-Exempt Position / 12-month work year
