## Job Summary

The Life Skills Coach supports the Mpowering My Success program, this role involves providing direct support, coaching, and advice to eligible students who have experienced time in foster care to aid their assimilation into college life and facilitate their transition to post-graduate endeavors.

Additionally, this position entails creating and maintaining relationships with campus and community partners, planning and implementing educational and community-building activities, and participating in on-call crisis counseling to ensure comprehensive support for student needs

This position reports to the Chief Diversity Officer.

This is a grant funded 3 year term limited position with the option of renewal after 2025.

## Responsibilities

Direct Service to Mpowering My Success

– Support, coach, and advise eligible Mpowering My Success students with all aspects of entry, assimilation, and retention in college life and transition to post-graduate endeavors; engages in problem-solving with students; monitor progress and perform weekly check- ins.
– Assist students in navigating university processes and services (admission, financial aid, academics, etc.); promote personal and academic success and well-being of students.
– Coach students toward self-sufficiency in campus and community environments and use of resources; assist students with securing basic needs (finances for college; health care/insurance, mental/physical health services, career planning, driver?s license, year-round housing; etc.); coaches towards financial responsibility and literacy.
– Assist students in accessing resources in the community (e.g. Fostering Futures Scholarship etc.) and through the Department of Human Services including Youth in Transition (YIT) and Educational Training Voucher funding.
– Interact with students to promote positive personal identities, social connections, and leadership on campus and in the community.
– Assists with establishing effective mentor/mentee relationships for the students.

Administrative Responsibilities

– Advocate and serve as liaison to campus champions, governmental and non-profit social services agencies (e.g., Dept. of Human Services; Medicaid; public assistance, Community Mental Health,etc.); must be skilled at working between agencies and able to integrate multiple resources to optimally meet students needs, while coaching students toward life and career independence.
– Plan, implement, and facilitate educational and community building programming for students.
– Participate and represent the Mpowering My Success Program in outreach and education events including campus visits for potential Mpowering My Success, tabling events, conference participation,etc.
– Maintain, prepare and create statistical reports; participate in developing evaluation tools for program services.
– Provides leadership to all components of the mentorship program including recruitment of new mentors, training, and program planning 1:1 support for mentors and students and evaluation of services.
– Perform responsibilities independently, consults with the Chief Diversity Officer.
– Direct Supervision of the Administrative Assistant for the Mpowering My Success program.
