Summary About the Position: This is a Supervisory Natural Resource Specialist, GS-0401-12 position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Operations Division, Lake Red Rock Project Office. Responsibilities Direct work activities, provide general direction to employees and gather data for budget planning, manpower, and administrative matters. Establish and explain performance standards and goals for assigned employees. Complete employee performance evaluations/performance appraisals. Serve as the lead for flood risk management programs. Coordinate program efforts with other internal activities/offices and other external agencies when needed. Direct natural resource inventories, develop compartment prescriptions, and implement natural resource management programs. Provide input on flood risk management structures and water control plan for the operation on both reservoir systems to cross flow requirements across Rock Island District, Region, and multi-agency efforts. Ensure that utility systems and site environment supports safe public usage and meet certification requirements. Preserve and protect rare and/or endangered species of flora and fauna, and cultural and historic resources by utilizing natural resource management techniques. Provide recommendations and review other input for negotiation of local law enforcement contracts and administer contracts to ensure public compliance with Title 36 and local and state laws. Establish plans and budget and direct all range, fish, and wildlife management; out grant management; archaeological and cultural resource management; and insect, rodent, pollution, and erosion control. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Supervisory Natural Resources Specialist- 401 Series A. Degree: Bachelors degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes implementing natural resources plans and programs designed to protect and further enhance fish, wildlife and water resources; assisting with flood risk management operations and plans; reviewing service contracts to ensure compliance with local and state laws; and working with other to create various planning documents for Natural Resources Management programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone–no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
