PARKING METER COLLECTION / MAINTENANCE

The City of Billings is seeking a Parking Meter Collection / Maintenance Worker to performs a variety of duties involved in the collection, repair, and maintenance of parking meters; and perform repair and maintenance on parking garage equipment and facilities; and a variety of duties required for the 24/7 operation of a semi-automated Parking division.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
– Collects revenue from street and lot parking meters.
– Delivers all parking funds collected to bank for deposit.
– Creates online vendor accounts, researches costs, and makes necessary purchases.
– Participates in the research and selection process for Request for Proposals (RFP).
– Assists management in matters related to returns, refunds, and warranty disputes regarding purchases.
– Provides biweekly 24/7 standby for call-outs and phone answering service.
– Conducts daily and semi-annual parking meter battery replacement.
– Performs both routine and non routine preventive and repair maintenance of parking meters, vehicles, garage equipment, and facilities.
– Repairs and maintains automatic doors, ADA compliance systems.
– Contacts and schedules certified contractors when needed.
– Repairs parking meters, housings, locks, and sidewalk poles as needed.
– Performs in-shop and outside maintenance and refurbishing of parking meters.
– Performs upgrades to parking meters and related infrastructure with technology updates.
– Troubleshoots and performs electrical and software maintenance and maintains detailed maintenance records.
– Performs a variety of maintenance duties at parking garages.
– Maintains water and drainage systems; assesses and repairs vandalism damage.
– Safely uses power tools.
– Performs limited elevator maintenance, elevator code tests, and maintains detailed maintenance records.
– Paints stripes, handrails, and stenciled signs in parking garages.
– Installs directional and warning signs.
– Maintains parking garages.
– Monitors upkeep and code compliance of fire extinguishers.
– Ensures all parking garage equipment is operational and set.
– Provides minor security service in garages.
– Performs custom fabrication of parts and equipment.
– Completes Property Damage Incident/Accident reports, documents damage and vandalism to department property, researches loss reports, and initiates replacement procedures.
– Assists in a variety of custodial projects at City Hall including moving furniture and records and loading and unloading supplies.
– Delivers and retrieves equipment to and from the shop for repair and maintenance, as needed.
– Removes wildlife from department facilities, including but not limited to bats, spiders, mice, rabbits, and birds.
– Coordinates with Animal Control when needed.
– Manages proper packaging, insurance, claims, shipment and receiving of department equipment.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
– A high school diploma or equivalent.
– Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows applications, and the ability to learn and program third-party applications and code.
– Must have the ability to learn low-current electrical wiring, soldering, and component replacement.
– Must be able to operate a variety of snow removal equipment.
– One year of experience in general maintenance work.
– A valid Montana drivers license or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Position requires successful applicant to be on standby bi-weekly.
Wage: $19.1071 – $24.3944 per hour. Salary reflects Step 2 and Step 7 of a 7-step pay scale. Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicants education, experience, and training.
