Position Summary:
The Shift Engineer is responsible for monitoring, operating, maintaining and repairing all of the central plant and facility mechanical, electrical, plumbing and control systems equipment. The Engineer performs service requests, preventive maintenance, equipment/system repair and equipment/system replacement work orders as assigned. In addition, the Engineer inspects all major equipment/ systems at least twice during each shift for proper operation, recording the operating parameters in the equipment readings log; performs maintenance/repair and/or initiates appropriate corrective action or assistance as required in the event of equipment/system malfunctions to insure safe, efficient and uninterrupted operation of all facility equipment/ systems.
The Engineer coordinates the submission of all parts, materials and equipment purchase requisitions related to operation, maintenance, repair and modification of the facility equipment/systems, through or as instructed. The Engineer actively supports and complies with all company and departmental policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Experience, Education, and Licensure
A High School Diploma, GED or equivalents required, as well as documented verification of apprenticeship or technical school training in engineering disciplines.
Five to ten (5-10) years’ experience in a similar position with hands-on experience in central plant operations and maintenance, repair and operation of high pressure Steam and hot water boilers; centrifugal chillers; cooling towers; plus self-contained refrigeration and air conditioning equipment; pneumatic/electronic/DDC control systems; air handling units; pumps; compressors; generators; power distribution equipment and UPS systems. CFC certification required.
The Engineer must have experience using a service ticket system to track work being done in the facility, as well as experience exploiting a building management system (BMS) for visibility into specific equipment operations.
Provide the best levels of support. This position is also subject to emergency call-ins, and is included in the Facility’s “On-Call” rotation.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Must have a full working knowledge of all levels of refrigeration and be able to repair or replace units in a timely manner, along with assisting and training other techs.
Must have experience with high pressure steam and hot water commercial boilers
Must have experience with chillers and cooling towers
Must have experience with service, repair, and install of HVAC equipment
Must be able to instruct and supervise Maintenance Technicians in order to assist with completion of HVAC work and other work as assigned.
Monitors and adjusts the operation of the facility mechanical, electrical, plumbing and control systems for proper operation.
Executes equipment/system inspections at least once during each shift, recording the required information in both the equipment readings log and shift operations log.
Adjusts and maintains the facility equipment/systems operating parameters as instructed.
Performs troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of equipment/systems in the event of malfunctions or improper operation and/or initiates appropriate corrective action or assistance as required.
Responds to tenant requests for service related to the environment of the facility or its equipment/systems.
Coordinates the submission of all parts, materials and equipment purchase requisitions related to the operation, maintenance, repair and modification of the facility equipment/systems, through or as directed by the Facilities Manager.
Oversees the performance of and assists contractors performing work on the facility equipment/systems during the assigned shift.
Maintains an adequate inventory of parts, materials and consumable maintenance products to accommodate the facility maintenance requirements.
Performs such other related and ancillary duties as may be required or assigned by competent authority.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned by competent authority.
Conduct regular water-treatment test for the facility and communicate with are contractor to ensure the safe operation of the plant.
Must regularly alternate the pressure vessels to assure reliable safe operation.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Must have ability to reach arms above head, kneel, squat, climb steps/ladders, frequently lift a maximum of 50 lbs. of equipment.
Ability to perform tasks wearing a mask, face shield, and composite toed boots.
Regularly required to crouch and reach to install/move equipment by bending forward at the waist or by bending legs and spine.
Involves movement between departments, floors, and properties to facilitate work including walking 5-10 miles per day.
Work in an environment with fluctuating temperatures.
Regularly required to type on a computer or stand-up desk and for 1-2 hours per day.
