Irrigation Technician I

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Irrigation Technician I position is responsible for irrigation system maintenance, repair, controller programming, web based central command monitoring and configuration within the Lakewood Ranch Stewardship District areas of responsibility. Works closely with Stewardship District landscape maintenance contractors. The Irrigation Technician I position implements, coordinates, and assists in application and distribution system piping repairs and reconfiguration as required.
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7am – 3:30pm, ½ hr. for lunch and other hours as needed (occasional support for special functions, weekends and evenings)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Perform semi-annual Stewardship District irrigation system wet check audits.
Perform and direct troubleshooting and repair of irrigation controls.
Perform and direct irrigation system preventative maintenance as defined.
Assist with the expansion of and improvement to the Stewardship Districts irrigation system preventative maintenance program.
Assist with and perform major repairs to irrigation application system, sub, and distribution mains up to four-inch pipe.
Manage and maintain irrigation schedules, controller programming at the controller location, and/or via central control through the Internet. Maintain reliable operation of advanced irrigation control technology, which can include District weather sensors, soil moisture sensors, and network communication components.
Responsible for carrying out irrigation system and other Stewardship District infrastructure locating services utilizing UtiliSphere and Sunshine811 web portals, online and inhouse resources.
At times, may be required to perform minor general plumbing repair and maintenance.
Frequently interface and coordinate with Stewardship District landscape contractors.
Responsible for maintaining department tools and equipment as well as inventory of department supplies.
Report irrigation system problems and poor landscaping conditions requiring higher level attention.
Responsible for assigned department vehicles, including:
Daily operational checks.
Monthly mileage reporting, fuel transactions and reporting repair needs to Fleet Management.
Comply with Organization and governmental safety regulations.
Participate in emergency on-call program. Responding to emergency situations requiring after hours attention, typically irrigation or general maintenance issues. Rotate as on-call coordinator.
Maintain clean and orderly work areas.
Responsible for professional and courteous working relationships with all Stewardship District employees, management, residents, visitors, and vendors.
Perform all other duties as assigned or needed.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Must have or aptitude for knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in irrigation system installation, maintenance, management, and repair.
Must have or aptitude for mechanical knowledge of plastic piping systems, supporting tools, and equipment required for the management of irrigation system scheduling, system repair, and maintenance up to four-inch pvc pipe.
Knowledge and experience with irrigation control equipment including multi, two-wire and wireless systems, preferred. Includes installation, programming, testing, low voltage electrical troubleshooting, and tracking systems.
Must possess strong problem-solving skills.
Must be able to lift to 80 pounds.
Must be computer literate, which includes but is not limited to, proficiency in a Microsoft Windows environment, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, Apple iPad and web based / remote irrigation control applications.
Must be highly motivated and able to work independently.
Must be able to communicate effectively.
REQUIREMENTS:
Valid US Drivers License.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work primarily performed in the outdoor environment, exposed to hot, cold, damp and dirty conditions.
