The Doe Run Company is seeking a Furnace and Crane Operator to complete duties in the hot metals department in order to support furnace operations (including blast, reverb and sweat) and support positions as needed (feed floor, loader operator and slag treatment). This nightshift position will be located at The Buick Resource Recycling Facility in Boss, MO.
Education and Experience:
– 3 years of experience in furnace support, demonstrating knowledge in the following areas:
– lead and slag chemistry;
– operating procedures for reverb furnace and controls;
– safe crane operation;
– feed, burner, slag, sonic, hygiene, and water systems.
– General maintenance tasks such as TLC (tightening lubricating, cleaning).
– High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
– Mobile equipment certification.
– Crane certification.
– Environmental safety training.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
– Ability to safely operate large mobile equipment.
– Skilled at general maintenance: ability to tighten, lubricate and clean, replace slag launderer, replace and remove duct work, pull ram screws, housing, and main feed screw, adjust hydraulic power heads, maintain hydraulic fluid levels, and change belts.
– Working knowledge of computers and ability to navigate, monitor, and adjust settings on computer screens.
– Knowledge of relevant environmental and safety regulations.
– Working knowledge of chemistry as it relates to furnace temperature adjustment.
– Familiarity with RS View.
Responsibilities:
– Follow furnace process and procedures to smelt lead material.
– Monitor furnace functioning and adjust feed rate and air flow within operational parameters. Monitor the chemistry and levels of slag and lead, making needed adjustments.
– Maintain a clean work area.
– Act as a resource and provide assistance to the furnace department, maintaining familiarity with all related jobs (feed floor, slag system, loader operator) Provide backup support where needed.
– Operate overhead crane, bobcat, and other equipment as needed to support furnace operations.
– Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Environment, Physical and Lifting:
– Regularly required to wear personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to, respirator, hearing protection and eyewear and to work near moving, mechanical parts; frequently exposed to vibration and extreme heat; occasionally works with fall protection, always when working at heights of 4 or more. Exposed to loud noise levels.
– Frequently requires walking, reaching with ands/arms, repetitive movement, and moving up and down from/to sitting position on the floor; occasionally requires sitting, talking, feeling attributes of objects, grasping, pushing, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, or balancing. Requires clarity of vision, three-dimensional vision, the ability to judge distance and spatial relationships, precise hand-eye coordination, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
– Frequently required to lift up to 75 pounds; occasionally required to lift up to 100 pounds.
