The City of Goddard, Kansas (pop. 6,300) is presently accepting
applications for a full time Police Officer. Goddard is a vibrant
community, growing and accessible, the destination for a family
oriented, active lifestyle. Goddard was once named the fastest growing
community in Kansas by the US Census Bureau and is now poised for more
significant growth as the fastest growing city in Sedgwick County.

The Goddard Police Department provides professional police services to
provide for the safety and security of our citizens. This agency is
staffed with 14 full-time commissioned Law Enforcement Officers and 1
civilian Police Service Officer. Employees respond to requests of
citizens assistance and act as necessary for the protection of life and
property. Work involves an element of danger and requires the use of
judgment, knowledge and skills in law enforcement procedures and
policies. Responsibilities also include preliminary investigation at
crime scenes and detailed documentation.

Essential Functions

– Patrol areas of the city either by patrol vehicle, bicycle, or on
foot to preserve law and order, to prevent and discover the
commission of crime, and to enforce motor vehicle and parking
regulations and correct traffic hazards.
– Answer calls and complaints received by radio, telephone, or in
person involving emergency, disorder, and crime.
– Interview people with complaints or inquiries, take statements and
tend to proper disposition of the information or direct them to
proper authorities.
– Conduct preliminary investigations, gather evidence, and locate
witnesses.
– Make arrests and/or take prisoners to jail.
– Appear in court to present evidence and/or testify as required.
– Conduct police-related community awareness and public relations
work.
– May administer basic first aid.
– Conduct preliminary investigations, locate witnesses, affect
arrests.
– Interview people with complaints or inquiries and make proper
disposition or direct them to proper authorities.
– Conduct preliminary investigations of major crimes or felonies.
– Serve criminal processes including warrants and subpoenas, testify
as a witness in court.
– Maintain records, prepare reports and perform other clerical duties.
– Locate, process, identify, collect, and preserve physical evidence.
– Ensure prisoners are charged and transported to proper facilities.
– Process crime scenes for latent fingerprint and palm print
impressions and photograph all pertinent evidence.
– Attend classes, conferences, or seminars as assigned, deemed
necessary to the best interests of the city and department.
– Attend training to retain certifications.
– Ensure 40 hours of in-service training is completed each year of
employment.
– Perform related work as required and directed.

The City of Goddard reserves the right to assign additional duties
as needed.

Pay starts at $45,760 annually for non-commissioned employees. Pay
increases to $49,940 after completion of KLETC and receiving
certification. Commissioned experience can be taken into consideration
for increased pay rate at the discretion of the Chief of Police.

Candidates recommended for hire will be required to successfully
complete a pre-employment drug screen, polygraph or CVSA, psychological,
and physical exams.
