K597 Transportation Crew Chief – Rockwall

General Description: Leads a crew of transportation maintenance technicians and equipment operators performing skilled transportation maintenance activities at the Rockwall Maintenance Office in the Dallas District. Reports to a maintenance section supervisor and assists in administration of the maintenance section. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. Work requires contact with private entities. Essential Duties: Assists during accidents and emergency weather situations to sand bridges and roads and put up warning signs, andorganize response of crews.Estimates and gathers materials and equipment necessary to complete assignments.Inspects roads while en route to and from job site and reports problems to supervisors.Inspects work performed by maintenance contractors.Maintains records on materials and equipment used and employee time sheets.Operates light and heavy equipment when needed.Oversees the work of designated maintenance inspectors and sign technicians.Performs some maintenance and repair on equipment and trains crew members on the use of equipment.Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments; serving as a resource for complex questions andtroubleshooting of problems; presenting operational updates to the supervisor; providing input on team membersandrsquo; careerconversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
