About this role:
The Senior Software Engineer - Data Ops role will create, communicate, develop training, and enforce practices for conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling, metadata management, data mapping, and data lineage across Consumer Technology lines of business. This position will partner with Architecture, Data Governance, Engineering Enablement, and other key roles to assess, adopt, and advocate tools, technologies, and practices for continuous improvements in data design and data management practices within the Consumer Technology engineering community.
This role will work closely with the Enterprise Data & Platforms (EDP), Enterprise Data Solutions & Services (DS&S), and Enterprise Data Management & Insights (DMI) organizations.
In this role, you will:
Provide specific, actionable guidance for delivery teams in the areas of data Modeling (RDBMS, NoSQL, and/or Hierarchical), metadata management, data mapping, and data lineage in large/complex environments, leveraging their own hands-on experiences.
Contribute to and implement strategies for data design, metadata management, and data lineage for engineers in private and public cloud, leveraging cloud native technologies.
Develop and promote a comprehensive process for managing data lineage from design through implementation, incorporating external vendors, systems of record (SOR), Approved Data Sources (ADS), reporting and analytics.
Integrate data design and data management capabilities with Test Data Management (TDM), data quality, access control management, and other engineering enablement capabilities to provide a seamless experience for the engineering community.
Effectively communicate data design and data management concepts and expectations to a wide variety of audiences, including business and technical partners. Create and present instructional materials targeted for people with a wide range of data management, business, and technical skills and acumen. Develop, maintain, and showcase technical curriculums.
Establish and maintain Data Design Requirements (DDR) to drive completeness and accuracy of metadata, data mappings, and data lineage, enforced by Enterprise SDLC.
Enable delivery teams to manage data independently through common tools, practices, and educational materials. Expand and support the Data Management Self-Service (DMSS) product suite across Consumer Technology.
Partner with Strategic Data Sourcing, Line of Business and Technology leaders to establish support models and rules of engagement for data management issues and activities, including implementation of the Approved Data Source (ADS) strategy across Consumer Technology and support for remediation activities.
Partner with Enterprise Transformation to develop and drive engagement models and best practices for effectively managing data in a scaled Agile environment (>1,300 scrum teams).
Manage data as a strategic asset and operationalize data design including data modeling (conceptual, logical, and physical), technical metadata, and data lineage. Improve efficiency of communication for data changes across complex heterogeneous data pipelines.
Drive consistency, efficiencies, and cost benefits through establishing and continuously improving Data Management practices and standards for the Engineering community.
Experience driving significant maturity improvements for data design and data management in low-maturity technology environments. Experience consulting with teams, collaborating across the enterprise, and delivering modern capabilities in an Agile environment to increase the maturity of the organization.
Required Qualifications, US:
4 years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.
2 years of Data Design including hands-on Data Modeling (RDBMS or NoSQL) with Enterprise tools – PowerDesigner, erwin Data Modeler, Hackolade, E/R Studio, SPARX Enterprise Data Architect, etc.
2 years of source to target Data Mapping and/or Data Lineage analysis.
1 years of experience with scaled Agile practices
Desired Qualifications:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, experience creating and/or presenting technical curriculum across a range of technical and non-technical learners.
Bachelors or advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics or other relevant field
2 years software engineering experience in Big Data Engineering, Application Support and/or Technology Operations
Hands on experience with Data Mapping and/or Data Lineage tools
Hands on experience with Erwin Data Intelligence Suite (Erwin DI)
Ability to implement data management capabilities at scale.
