About the College
As one of the four original colleges at Texas Tech University at its founding in 1925, the College of Health and Human Sciences (CHHS)has a rich history of investing in students, preparing them to impact the world around them. The College of Health and Human Sciences provides multidisciplinary education, research, and service focused on individuals, families, and their environments to improve and enhance the human condition. The college offers a wide range of outstanding and nationally recognized undergraduate and graduate programs and encompasses seven academic units that include Community, Family and Addiction Sciences; the Department of Design; Family and Consumer Sciences Education; Hospitality and Retail Management; Human Development and Family Sciences; Interdisciplinary Human Sciences; Nutritional Sciences; and the School of Personal Financial Planning. In further supporting its vision of providing premier research, outreach, and educational programs that enhance human well-being worldwide, the CHHS is also home to six centers and five institutes. When they graduate, our students are making an impact as educators, healthcare professionals, financial planners, hospitality managers, fashion merchandisers, designers, counselors, and nutrition experts.
About the Department/School/Area
The School of Financial Planning offers a B.S. in Applied Personal Finance, and a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Personal Financial Planning. All Personal Financial Planning programs are registered with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards. All programs meet the education requirement for the AFC certification.
Three dual degrees are offered: JD/MS in PFP, MBA/MS in PFP, and MS Tax/MS PFP and a minor in Agricultural Economics Ph.D. is also supported.
Graduate certificates in Charitable Financial Planning and Financial Health and Wellness are provided as well as a professional MS degree delivered in a hybrid format at the TTU DFW location.
An online minor in Personal Finance and courses to meet the financial literacy needs of students are offered.
Enrollment of ma ors includes approximately 240 undergraduate students and 171 graduate students, of which 37 are doctoral. There are 126 Personal Finance minors and 555 Personal Finance concentrations.
Faculty positions currently include 11 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 4 professors of practice, 4 lecturers, and adjunct faculty who work as a team to accomplish the Schools collective goals.
Students take classes and study in the 4,200 square foot Charles Schwab/PFP Technology Complex.
The Center for Financial Responsibility offers research and outreach opportunities for the School of Financial Planning and graduate students.
Knowledge Empowering You (KEY) utilizes students in the School of Financial Planning to provide educational outreach and financial coaching in the Lubbock community.
School of Financial Planning students apply their knowledge through Red to Black Peer Financial Coaching through the TTU Office of Student Services, providing financial education and awareness to TTU students through individual coaching sessions, presentations, outreach booths, and resource referrals.
Financial Planning Academy, funded by Charles Schwab Foundation, is a summer camp that introduces high school students to the Registered Investment Advisory industry and provides education in the core areas of personal financial management.
The Charles Schwab Foundation Personal Financial Planning Clinic at Texas Tech University is a community-based outreach endeavor focused on promoting family financial resiliency and empowerment by offering no-cost one-on-one financial coaching to all members of the Lubbock community. This service additionally generates impactful hands-on experiential learning opportunities for the next generation of financial planners within the Texas Tech University School of Financial Planning and contributes to the creation of applied research on family financial communication, financial well-being, and financial decision-making.
