Telecommunications Engineer
TEKsystems
Description:
Our client is looking for a Telecommunications Engineer to support some of their localized OPCOs for various Telecommunications initiatives. These initiatives can vary, but some are BAU (Business as Usual) work/upgrades, and others are project based such as delivering fiber to all of the tower gateway base stations, substations, or even getting fiber into distribution substations for ADMS technologies (Advanced Distribution Management Systems). Essentially, there is a multi OPCO program going on to install and replace aged DC power plant as it pertains to Telecommunications systems within substations and Microwave/Wireless shelters. This position will be on the “Operations” not “Engineering” side of the company so the “Program/Projects” that are going on would be supporting them after they are complete, but also providing guidance/insight during the various phases of deployments.
This Telecommunications Engineer will be a “jack of all trades” when it comes to the specific Telecommunications projects they are supporting but are expected to be the technical SME for overseeing the Battery support across their various projects. This would include, but not be limited to troubleshooting alarms,
troubleshooting batteries/rectifiers, performing site walks/surveys, evaluating current designs, updating current designs, updating standards and SOP (standard
operating procedures) for Telecommunications DC power (all of this would be a team effort), coordinating with vendors across the build (design vendors, OEMs, construction vendors, etc), also coordinating across internal cross functional teams (Comm Engineers, Power Engineers, Electrical Distribution Teams, Project Managers, etc), owning documentation within various databases, collecting and updating as-builts, etc.
Every day can be different depending on where the current support is needed. This could be responding to various alarms, working with engineering teams on project based work, overseeing/QCing builds from their general contractors, helping create SOPs, performing training, etc. This will be a hybrid work environment/schedule.
Top Skills Details:
1. 4 years of experience supporting installation or replacement of DC Power/Batteries specific to Telecommunications Networks.
2. Strong experience/understanding of the lifecycle associated to DC Power/Telecommunications Deployments and coordinating across that ecosystem.
3. Strong Experience reading blueprints, performing site walks, completing associated documentation, and communication with both internal and external stakeholders and vendors.
Need to be able to communicate across various levels of the organization and be comfortable in the field.
Voltages vary, but this candidate should be familiar with 48 Volt DC, 120 Volt, or 20X AC to power DC systems. Again, all of this is powering Telecom systems.
This position is on the “Operations” side of the house, so the all of the experience above is beneficial for the various duties and daily troubleshooting associated with the job, but that does not mean they will be performing all of these duties on a daily basis.
