LENAX is looking for a Cost Engineer , who will work in support of an airport capital improvement program. The Cost Engineer will report to the Project Budget Manager. The successful candidate will have cost engineering experience with as much as possible complex, multi-phase, multi-million-dollar construction and/or renovation projects. The general job duties include preparing detailed computer-generated cost reports, charts and diagrams; providing analysis and review of cost/budget expenditures, maintaining cost control reports; promptly reporting anticipated cost overages or other unsatisfactory cost elements; liaisons with Data Processing in developing support for network calculations, printouts and cost reports, and other cost related services.

Essential Job Duties – The Cost Engineer’s duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Monitoring project budgets for multi-billion-dollar, airport Capital Improvement Program.

Reviewing and analyzing sub-contractor invoices, and preparation of job costing reports to allocate these expenditures against the appropriate Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) numbers; and, ensuring that both commitments and expenditures follow the same allocation methodology.

Performing cost-to-complete analysis for all cost elements within a project, taking into consideration staffing plans, contract commitments, and expenditures to date, change orders and trends.

Attending project meetings to provide Project Management with current financial information and trend log regarding potential impacts to project budget or forecast.

Providing progress reporting documents and briefing materials as required. Develops creative reporting tools to communicate complex project sequencing and/or progress assessments.

Reviewing task orders for contractors and sub-consultants to ensure necessary budget and/or contract capacity exists.

Analyzing bid award values against current budget and prepare reconciliations to include in the current forecast at completion.

Analyzing change order values against the current budget and preparing reconciliations to include in the current forecast, at completion.

In Prolog, updating contract commitments, reconciling and analyzing actual expenditures; performing budget transfers; monitoring trend status; and, maintaining continuity of the WBS structure.

Performing Project closeouts, resourcefully, to ensure that Prolog Data matters and the owner/clients reporting needs are met.

Preparing data to support documentation required for journal vouchers and budget transfers.

Job Qualifications – To effectively perform the essential functions of the job, candidates for Cost Engineer must meet the following position specifications:

Education / Registrations / Certifications

Professional Registration and/or Certification in an applicable field of study is preferred.

Related Training is also preferred.

Degree in Business Administration, Construction Management or related field.

Professional Experience Level & Other Qualifications

Five-to-seven (5-7) years’ cost engineering experience, with one-to-three (1 – 3)-years in direct support of an active construction project.

Demonstrated experience managing and reporting the cost components of large-scale, complex projects, including developing and managing a progress reporting methodology for a complicated design effort.

Experience with Design-Build and Construction Management at Risk delivery methods is desirable.

Demonstrated proficiency with a large-scale cost reporting system is required. Experience with Prolog is highly desirable.

Demonstrated ability to understand technical and complicated construction programs, and the ability to effectively communicate progress to both technical- and management-level personnel.

Ability to work well with others.

Must be a self-starter with results-driven focus.

Hardware/Software/Systems & Related

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of software applications is required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)

Experience with Adobe Acrobat preferred.

Prolog knowledge and experience preferred.

Other

May assume other duties as required/needed.

May be required to work past regular work shift.

May be required to work various shifts as needed.

The finalist may be afforded a hybrid schedule as a benefit—Monday thru Thursday onsite, and Fridays remote. However, this benefit is afforded at the discretion of the client and may be retracted or changed at any time. One must also be available to report to the worksite on the optional telework/remote-work day, if needed.

As noted above, this is not a remote position. Those considered for the position must be able to report to the worksite (in the Los Angeles County area) on a regular schedule and, as needed. If approved for a “hybrid” schedule, it is considered a “benefit,” and not a requirement. Complete workstations are available at the worksite, and therefore, laptops and other workstation equipment are not provided additionally if one chooses to participate in the hybrid work schedule. The hybrid benefit presumes that one has the necessary hardware, software, and high-speed Internet connectivity enabling them to perform the job duties. Software/systems access will be provided by the client.

Compensation: Compensation for this position will be posted when the requisition is issued and the position “opens.” This would be a Full-time, regular, exempt position.
