Description
The City of Norfolks Police Department, Central Records Division – Technology Support is currently seeking applications for a Police Civilian Investigator/Technician.

Police Civilian Investigator/Technicians assist with monitoring building security cameras, take occasional offense reports, work independently and in a team environment, maintain various logs and prepare different reports, processing and distributing digital evidence and other files as determined by the department, and so much more.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about working in public safety, willingness to assist citizens, and in working for a police department committed to excellence.
Essential Functions
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
Monitor prisoners, in person and remotely through CCTV.
Monitor building security cameras.
Monitor alarms of different Police Department facilities.
Assist with taking occasional offense reports.
Maintain various logs and prepares different reports.
Conduct fingerprinting.
Assist with answering citizen questions (phone and front desk).
Assist the ID section of the Central Records Division with 3rd offense checks.
Learn and continue education on the laws pertaining to adult and especially juvenile prisoners.
Assist with entering warrants and protective orders.
Maintain full level access to the Criminal Information Network (VCIN) and the National Criminal Information National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
Screen citizens entering the Police Operations Center (POC).
Process and distribute digital evidence and other files as determined by the Central Records Division.
Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school.
Retired Police Officer or considerable work in a law enforcement agency.

Work Schedule:
24 hours, 7 days a week availability, various days off
IntermittentRetiree Part-time Employees:
IntermittentRetiree part-time employees will work no more than 1040 hours in a twelve (12) month period of time. The hours are flexible and based on the departments operation needs. This position is not eligible for benefits.
Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees may receive paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer paid pension plan, basic life insurance, voluntary participation in medical and dental, Section 457 deferred compensation, long-term disability, optional life insurance for self, spouse and children, medical and dependent care reimbursement plans, access to membership in credit union and employer provided parking.
Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization.
Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union.
Retirement
If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
