Project Manager, Research Support

The University of Miami/UHealth department of Neurology has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Project Manager, Research Support to work at the UHealth Medical Campus.

Core Summary

The Project Manager, Research Support (A) coordinates and leads efforts in a variety of research activities that are complex and wide in scope. Moreover, the Project Manager, Research Support (A) operates with the goal of ensuring that the collection of data and administration of studies are performed efficiently and in compliance with applicable guidelines.

Core Responsibilities

Aids in the evaluation of problems with workflow, organization, and planning and develops appropriate analytical approaches.

Maintains multiple protocol books and chronicles manuscript preparation.

Performs analyses of computerized datasets using standard packages to import, update, and manipulate datasets.

Presents studies’ results at professional scientific meetings and conferences.

Writes manuscripts and journal articles for peer-reviewed medical journals.

Department Specific Functions

The Project Manager, Research Support, will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Multiple Sclerosis division’s research activities and sponsored programs. This role requires expertise in managing multicenter projects, with a strong focus on continuous process improvement. The Project Manager will be responsible for a broad portfolio of federally and industry-funded studies, including those from Novartis. Key duties include managing pre- and post-award activities, conducting administrative reviews of new proposals, coordinating with satellite and clinical sites to ensure swift regulatory reliance and protocol trial agreements, assisting in the development of local budgets, submitting required documentation to institutional regulatory bodies, and preparing financial reports. Knowledge of University and Sponsor systems and portals is essential. The role also involves maintaining effective communication and relationships with the department’s research support team, faculty, and sponsors. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Oversee the research portfolio, including pre-award submissions and post-award management, ensuring scope, budget, effort, and quality meet expectations.

Provide leadership and guidance in applying for various funding mechanisms.

Develop complex grant budgets, implement subawards, assist with material and data use agreements, and manage consultant and service contracts.

Attend regular status meetings with principal investigators to stay informed of study developments and assist in addressing any challenges.

Maintain expertise in university financial systems and grant e-submission platforms.

Develop and maintain tools for both personal and team use to ensure timely completion of project milestones.

Assist with clinical study budget feasibility, sponsor negotiations, and reconciliation of internal and external invoices.

Track federal grant expenditures and monitor revenues and expenses for industry-sponsored clinical trials.

Serve as liaison between MS team and other departments/centers/institutes for grant and contract administration.

Collaborate closely with PI(s) and the research support team on pre-award submissions, grant setup, and closeout activities (e.g., subrecipient invoice payments, carryover, no-cost extension requests, final financial reports).

Maintain databases for deliverables and reporting requirements for all active research projects, as well as proposal-related documents (biosketches, major equipment, facilities, etc.).

Meet regularly with principal investigators and protocol team leaders to review grants, ensure data accuracy, and assess overall project progress.

Core Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
