Basic Job Functions:

The responsibilities of the Galvanizing Lead include but are not limited to: being a positive member of the leadership team at NTSAL and being an active participant in the development of teammates within our culture. Safety is an important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead and uphold safety practices, policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards to make safety a priority at all times.

In this position the Lead will monitor and ensure proper flow of product throughout the galvanizing department, as well as overseeing and training teammates on the line. This position is also responsible for communicating information to other departments and teammates as it relates to galvanizing production. The Lead is responsible for establishing and setting the production pace, maintaining efficiency and ensuring quality of galvanized steel. Additional responsibilities will include filling in for other positions in the galvanizing department, and for the Supervisor, as necessary.

Daily Process Crane Inspections

Final inspection of the rigging of the material before starting the pickling process.

Ensure monitoring of automated crane movements in the process tunnels.

Ensures proper vent holes and drain holes are in the material before galvanizing.

Proper inspection of all lifting equipment prior to use (forklifts, cranes, etc.)

Safe operation of overhead crane while maneuvering heavy steel products hanging from large racks.

Filing or grinding of excess zinc, ash or drip marks from ends of product that are created by the hot- dipped process.

Ensuring proper repair procedures are followed on uncoated areas (how to grind & how to apply paint).

Works with ARS operators and P.E.s to ensure process tanks are in proper operating parameters.

Monitoring of Processing Software to make sure the line moves safely and efficiently.

Minimum Qualifications:

Competent with Microsoft Office software programs.

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Able to operate a forklift and overhead crane or the ability to achieve a certification within 30 days of hire.

Minimum 2 years of hot-dipped galvanizing operational experience.

Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including scheduled and unscheduled overtime, rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends

Preferred Qualifications:

One year previous leadership experience.

Desire to pursue positions of increased responsibility
