Summary:
Provides timely, non-judgmental, and compassionate care to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and similar criminal acts. Performs forensic examinations and provides prophylaxis for pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, and HIV. Obtains photographic documentation. Makes referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up. Supports and participates in legal proceedings. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN).
Possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Documented completion of an International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN)-approved Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) training course that focuses on Adult and/or Adolescent patients.
1 year of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to adjust to multiple demands while providing compassionate care to victims.
Maintains working knowledge of law enforcement and medical investigative responsibilities.
Ability to identify the needs of sexual assault patients that require physician intervention in a timely manner.
Ability to interact with multidisciplinary teams, communicate program needs, and work with peers.
Access to reliable transportation to respond to on-call demands within prescribed time frames and to travel to required court appearances.
Preferred:
Certified as a SANE Nurse.
Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Documented completion of an IAFN-approved SANE training course that focuses on Pediatric patients.
Documented completion of a Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
2 years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse.
Membership in professional organizations, including participation in county, state, and/or national peer review and education efforts.
Physical Requirements:
May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently during the day.
May need to sit or stand for extended periods.
See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
Ability to lift 250-300 pounds with assistance.
Ability to push/pull up to 500 pounds with assistance.
Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
Requires some exposure to chemicals and cleaning products.
