Certified Medical Assistant – Occupational Health – Youngstown

The Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled clinical professional who works within the scope of practice to assist in patient care under the providers direction. The Medical Assistant helps patients by providing information, services, and other assistance to support physicians and other providers in rendering patient care.

Essential Job Functions

Under the direction of the provider, contributes to the completion of the patient’s chief complaint (including but not limited to respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, height, weight, and temperature) and documentation of patient needs.

Identifies problems in patient condition through data collection and reports them to the provider. Understands and adheres to the legal responsibilities and requirements within the Medical Assistant role.

Under the direction of the provider, participates in planning and implementing care for patients within the scope of Medical Assisting practice. Troubleshoots issues and escalates problems to provider, direct supervisor, or appropriate internal resource. Demonstrates standards of care excellence in all interactions, for both internal and external customers.

Float associates will float to various urgent care centers within the market as determined by leadership. May continuously be rotating between centers within the market to assist with periods of high volume, new center openings, and seasonality.

Maintains clinical and administrative skills to meet patient care and daily operational needs. Collect patient specimens and run point of care lab tests. Travel to other facilities for BSMH (Bon Secours Mercy Health) providers or adjusting work hours to meet patient care needs as directed by the manager may also be required.

Maintains a safe and supportive environment by keeping the work area, exam rooms, and equipment in clean, orderly, and safe manner, ensuring availability and proper functioning of supplies and equipment.

Within the Medical Assisting scope and state guidelines, administers ordered medications and/or vaccines via oral, injection, topically, or as directed. Collect patient specimens and run point of care lab tests.

Documents in EMR (Electronic Medical Record) accurately and appropriately. Manages My Chart requests and incoming patient calls. Manages in-basket messages under the Provider’s instructions.

Other duties include ordering supplies, lab, and diagnostic tests, disposing of contaminated supplies, patient registration, scheduling, phone triage, cash handling, check-in/check-out and performing scribing duties as needed.

This position will include scheduled support working at the Front Desk as well as Medical Assisting.

Employment Qualifications

Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Education: Vocational/ Technical Degree

Specialty/Major: Medical Assisting

Licensing/ Certification

Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the following (required):

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA); American Association of Medical Assisting, Registered Medical Assistant (RMA); American Medical Technologists, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA); National Healthcareer Association (NHA); Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NCRMA); National Association for Health Professionals, National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA); National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

If incumbent is unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable

Basic Life Support (BLS) required within Ninety (90) days of hire.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of Medical Assisting experience preferred

Medical Terminology and the ability to use standard office equipmentStrong oral and written communication skills, and an ability to collaboratively work with patients, families, and teams within a high-volume environment. Strong attention to details and an ability to multitask without prior instruction or direction.

Education

High School/GED (required)

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant post-secondary education (preferred)

Work Experience

Completion of externship or clinical lab training (preferred)

1 year of recent Medical Assisting experience (preferred)
