Peckham Inc. – WIOA Career Coach
POSITION SUMMARY
The Career Coach will counsel individuals to maximize the independence and employability of persons with vocational difficulties. They will provide case management and career planning assistance services to individuals who participate in Workforce Investment Opportunity Act (W.I.O.A.) Adult and Dislocated Worker programs. Career Coaches in this program must be able to work with diverse populations, establish strong relationships with program participants, provide employment and training counseling, enter detailed information on a state-wide database, understand and utilize job development skills, and provide follow up support services to ensure the success of our participants. This is a grant funded position.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Assess participant eligibility for WIOA services, conduct participant intake and program orientation.
Prepare and maintain records and case files, including documentation such as participants’ personal and eligibility information, services provided, narratives of participant contacts and relevant correspondence.
Develop individualized plans of service that fit participants’ aptitudes, education levels, physical abilities, and career goals in a demand driven workforce development system.
Monitor and record participant s’ progress to ensure that goals and objectives are met.
Maintain close contact with participant during job training and placements to resolve problems and evaluate placement adequacy.
Confer with referral agencies and community partners to develop and implement service plans.
Coordinate participant services in collaboration with other programs.
In cooperation with other Career Coaches, arrange and/or teach job seeking skills, retention skills, and life skills for participants.
Scheduling language support for New Americans or ELL (English Language Learners)
Develop and maintain relationships with community referral sources, such as schools, human service agencies and community groups appropriate to the needs of participants.
Identify barriers to client employment, such as inaccessible work sites, inflexible schedules, and transportation problems, and work with participants to develop strategies for overcoming these barriers.
Assess need for supportive services and process requests, as needed.
Assist customers using public computers and resources.
Provide program and employment retention and follow-along services for program participants.
Work collaboratively with the CAMW! Business Service team monitoring available job leads, coordinating OJT, and customized training opportunities, screen participants and make referrals when appropriate.
Participate in community and employer events with CAMW! and Peckham, Inc.
Maintain timely case file documentation on OSMIS and in hard copy file.
Maintain accurate documentation on participant program activities as specified by the State of Michigan, Peckham, and CAMW!
Maintain knowledge of WIOA and CAMW! program policy.
Meet or exceed established performance expectations as defined in the contract.
Provide crisis intervention.
Attend meetings for participant service planning.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain safe and clean work environment.
Promote Peckham’s vision values and services to all customers and stakeholders.
Assist in maintaining organizational wide quality standards.
Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalent required
This position requires passing and maintaining security background checks.
Above average typing skills and knowledge of Microsoft office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) are required.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing career counseling and guidance and customer and personal services utilizing customer needs assessment and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; and learning and motivation.
Excellent communication skills
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, participants, customers, and the general public.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology or related field preferred.
1-2 years related experience and/or training (or equivalent combination of education and experience) preferred.
Previous W.I.O.A. or W.I.A. case management experience, or Michigan Works! adult program services experience
Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) or Business Solutions Professional (BSP) certifications
