REPORTS TO: Operations & Asset Utilization Manager STATUS: Exempt PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT The Area Operations Manager provides management, supervision, and leadership for the operations of assigned locations, overseeing personnel, scheduling, logistics, product handling, services, and customer satisfaction. This role also involves managing locational staff, coordinating with sales teams, and ensuring operational efficiency to meet customer needs within a designated geographic area. It also consists in providing timely and accurate customer service to enhance satisfaction, maintain the company’s reputation, and ensure profitability. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ag retail, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to agricultural excellence. SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP Supervise all Location Managers in assigned territory. Train, organize, and direct employees to support increased, profitable sales and maintain high levels of service. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Assists in workforce supervision, including hiring, training, performance management, salary adjustments, and discipline, while leading and mentoring a team of professionals. This includes conducting performance evaluations, providing feedback, and fostering staff development through ongoing training and professional growth opportunities. Maintain strong relationships with key customers by addressing their agronomy, energy, feed, and/or grain needs and ensuring satisfaction with the services provided. Respond to customer inquiries, complaints, and requests in a manner that serves the customers best interests and the company’s well-being. Coordinate with sales teams to align operational activities with customer requirements and sales objectives while collaborating with sales specialists and location managers to generate additional profitable sales throughout the year. Create plans and manage logistics to ensure the efficient and timely use of materials, equipment, and personnel while overseeing the effective use of resources. Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including safety protocols, environmental regulations, and industry standards. Promote a culture of safety within the team, conducting regular safety training and audits. Work with Location Managers to ensure all equipment, rolling stock, and facilities are properly maintained and in good working condition. Evaluate operating costs and product quality and adjust operation and inventory control programs to sustain and improve profitability. Acts as a liaison between assigned locations and other company departments and/or locations. Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to enhance productivity and service quality. Oversees the preparation of accounting records and work orders using company accounting software and assists locations in managing accounts receivable in accordance with company credit policies. Plans, organizes, and oversees internal and external projects. Support the annual budgeting process by coordinating and recommending budget plans to management. Develop and manage operational budgets to ensure cost-effective operations and maintain high service standards. Communicates all new territory opportunities to management. Supports the development of new locations. Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies. Implement new technologies and practices that enhance service and customer satisfaction. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS Supports and contributes to total company goals and objectives through collaboration efforts. Performs all other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS Educations and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Crop Science, Energy Management, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in ag retail operations, with at least two (2) years in a management or supervisory role. Proven experience in retail agriculture operations or a related industry, a strong understanding of propane and liquid fuels, and a solid knowledge of agronomy practices, crop production, and agricultural products, that may include feed production and grain storage. Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) or similar certification is a plus. Proficiency in using agricultural and energy management software and tools. Ability to work hours other than those considered normal at various times throughout the year to meet deadlines and demands. The role may require occasional travel to other company locations or industry events, with the ability to travel independently and stay overnight as needed.
