Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: As a Maintenance Worker/Mechanic you will perform work in a variety of trades to include carpentry, plumbing, painting and basic electrical trades. Work will also involve maintenance and modifications to buildings, grounds, and recreational facilities in park type settings. Responsibilities Perform a variety of painting, carpentry, and plumbing tasks. Construct, alter, repair, and modify wood structures or components such as building framework, doors, windows, trim, and paneling. Work from plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing, placement, slant, slope, fall, and proper operation of systems and equipment. Accomplish a number of varying tasks related to maintenance and repair of automotive equipment, air conditioning systems, heating systems, electrical systems, and masonry. Install, adjust, and repair motors, blowers, pilots, igniters, and thermostatic control devices. Diagnose malfunctions and makes repairs to window units and small central air conditioning units. Install, modify, and repair new and existing water and sewage systems, water closets, and showers. Clean, reinstall, or replace defective parts of automotive components and systems. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Maintenance Mechanic – WG-4749-09Perform carpentry work, plumbing, painting, and maintenance/repair of automotive equipment such as constructing, altering, repairing, and/or modifying framework, doors, windows, and trim; performing plumbing work such as installing pipes; painting indoor and outdoor surfaces; and/or maintaining or repairing automotive equipment such as air conditioning systems or heating systems. Maintenance Mechanic – WG-4749-07Perform carpentry work and painting such as constructing, altering, repairing, and/or modifying framework, doors, windows, and trim and painting indoor and outdoor surfaces. Physical Effort: The incumbent frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds, works from ladders and scaffolding, and assumes awkward and tiring work positions regularly. Working Conditions: The work is performed inside and outside and is often dirty, dusty, and greasy. Exposure to weather conditions and possible broken bones, lacerations, and burns is regular. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
