Job Summary
The School of Music at the University of Southern Mississippi seeks to hire an oboist for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The anticipated hire date will be on or around August 13, 2025.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching expectations – Teach applied oboe and other courses within the candidates area(s) of interest and experience in order to meet the equivalent of a 3×3 teaching load.
Expectations for Creative Activities – Maintain an active performance schedule both on and off campus. Other creative activities might include producing a professional recording, commissioning or premiering new works, or presenting at professional conferences, among others.
Service expectations – Recruit undergraduate and graduate oboe students and engage in service activities within the School of Music, as well as across the university. Faculty are also encouraged to serve or otherwise participate in their professional organizations.
Minimum Qualifications
DMA in Oboe (or equivalent terminal degree) by time of appointment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
A strong commitment to teaching and the recruitment of outstanding students
Proven artistry and significant experience as a performer
Evidence of successful teaching experience
Preferred Qualifications
A history of successful teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels
Experience mentoring or advising graduate student performance and research
Experience teaching courses in a general education curriculum
