| The Town of Garner is seeking an experienced Senior Planner, who is a |
| highly motivated team player with an innovative mindset that can |
| tackle complex planning challenges. The Senior Planner performs |
| difficult, advanced professional work assisting with the development, |
| coordination, and conduct of the Towns comprehensive planning (Garner |
| Forward) and master plan review programs focused on implementing the |
| Towns overall vision as represented by the Town of Garner Strategic |
| Plan. Work involves advising the Planning Director, Assistant |
| Planning Director, Town Council, and Planning Commission in a project |
| manager role, managing consultants as assigned who are contracted |
| with the Town as an extension of staff, and providing urban design |
| direction to developers as informed by the adopted comprehensive |
| plan. The position requires considerable public contact, often in |
| sensitive or emotional situations requiring sound judgment, firmness, |
| and tact. Work is performed under the general supervision of the |
| Assistant Planning Director. |

| Examples of Duties: |

| – Advises the Assistant Planning Director, Planning Director, Town |
| Managers, Town Council, Planning Commission and others on |
| comprehensive planning, master planned rezoning, demographic |
| analysis, land use and transportation matters; |
| – Performs and manages complex and sensitive professional |
| long-range planning projects, research and analysis as assigned; |
| – Manages assigned long-range plans and related activities under |
| the umbrella of Garner Forward and coordinates with regional |
| partners and neighboring local jurisdictions; |
| – Reviews conditional master planned and other rezoning requests; |
| – Participates in Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization |
| (CAMPO) subcommittees and special studies as directed and serves |
| as the alternate voting member of both the CAMPO Technical |
| Coordinating Committee and Transit Planning Advisory Committee in |
| the absence of the Assistant Planning Director; |
| – Coordinates activities with partner agencies including, but not |
| limited to, the US Census Bureau, NC Secretary of State, NC |
| Department of Transportation, State Demographers office, Wake |
| County Housing and Community Revitalization Division, Wake County |
| Planning, GoRaleigh, GoTriangle, and the Wake County Public |
| School System; |
| – Provides subject-area technical assistance and support to the |
| general public related to the Towns electronic review portal; |
| – Assists in the identification and preparation of applications for |
| planning grant funding as available; |
| – Prepares and presents staff reports to the Planning Commission |
| and Town Council; |
| – Responds to questions from citizens and developers regarding |
| long-range planning projects and rezoning cases within the Towns |
| planning jurisdiction; |
| – Attends a number of evening meetings; and |
| – Performs related t sks as required. |

| Minimum Qualifications: |

| Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university with a |
| degree in geography, urban planning, urban design, landscape |
| architecture or related field and at least three (3) years of |
| professional experience in public sector planning or contracted |
| public planning service required. |

| A valid drivers license is required. |
| |
| A masters degree in urban planning or related field and AICP |
| certificationarepreferred. |
