This position may be covered by a Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Association (VEBA) JOB DUTIES: As a Career Development Specialist, you will: Engage with education communities in Montana to help shape and empower the workforce of tomorrow. Collaborate with others to support the development and administration of career development among Montana’s youth, specifically working with Montana schools and organizations that engage out-of-school youth. Determine the prioritization of services that align with school district needs through assessment tools, availability of resources, and stated goals of the institution. Act as a liaison between internal DLI partners and learning communities throughout Montana. Coordinate, expand, and customize existing projects that allow students to gain experience in their desired career pathway. Facilitate meetings while representing the interests of the DLI when interacting with schools, community partners, government agencies, and other stakeholders. Collaborate with educational communities and key members to develop and maintain coordination of services and single point of contact for relevant points of engagement. Report to internal partners and make recommendations for enhancing service delivery. Initiate, build and maintain partnerships and connect with community groups, K-12 schools, post-secondary education institutions, and organizations to streamline services, share resources, and improve outcomes. Utilize labor market, economic, and workforce data for strategic planning and leverage this data to address work-based learning needs and challenges in Montana’s education communities. Develop an understanding of the operations and needs of Montana’s education communities, ensuring that services are well aligned with local business workforce needs. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITES: If you are the right person for this opportunity, you will have the following knowledge, skills or abilities: Knowledge of career development in identifying opportunities and solutions to meet current and future work-based learning needs. Knowledge of national career development standards and Montana’s K-12 Career & Technical Education (CTE) standards to assist education communities in preparing students for career exploration and career planning. Understand the targeted and current growth in high demand occupations and industries of the future and understand the skills, certifications, and competencies associated with those occupations. Knowledge of current workforce training programs, labor market data, career development resources and problem-solving skills to increase accessibility to career advancement opportunities. Research and measure the effectiveness of implemented operational changes. Utilize career development best practices and CTE standards to facilitate delivery of a comprehensive system of WBL. experiences within each education community. Collaboration and communication is critical to working as a member of the Career Development Team. Knowledge of the challenges and opportunities facing Montana’s economic landscape, aware of the needs of private industry, and proficient in state and federal programs available to improve and expand Montana’s educational opportunities in terms of career awareness, exploration and preparation. Understand and apply analytical tools and techniques that contribute to the effective of statewide education goals. Promote quality of services through coordination of local and statewide partnerships to support K-12 in developing career pathways for students to access WBL experiences and institutions of higher education. Support quality implementation of initiatives related to K-12 and higher education across the state. Possess excellent skills in interpersonal communication, organization, conflict resolution, time and priority management, and problem solving. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Your preparation for this opportunity could include a combination of relevant experiences including: Bachelor’s degree One year of directly related experience.
