The Automation Engineer will assist the Automation Management in providing automation support to the Value Stream, serving as technical support on small and large projects, and driving alignment of site automation practices with global and industry engineering standards. The Automation Engineer participates in all the technical aspects of automated systems, low voltage systems, and Distributed/PLC controls. Responsibilities include coordination of suppliers, design management, lifecycle code management for automated systems, commissioning, and IQ/OQ for assigned systems.
Automation is critical to the modern facility and manufacturing compliance; the Automation Engineer is required to coordinate efforts with other members of local and global teams. The Automation Engineer actively promotes the success of the Automation Engineering group through continual collaboration with the team. The Automation Engineer Champions the voice of the customer in decisions affecting Technical Services resource allocation and project prioritization. Ensure cGMP and ISA compliance of automated systems.

  • Assist in ensuring compliance and readiness for internal and external inspections and provide adequate support to inspected departments.
  • Support internal, external, and global regulatory agency audits as a subject matter expert.
  • Contribute to management of change activities for automation modifications, including management of design document updates, generation of engineering test protocols, and implementation/testing of solutions.
  • Generate automation-related deliverables and support automation work for implementation of configuration for small and large projects.
  • Actively supports production and facilities teams in investigations and troubleshooting, including participation in rotating on-call support.
  • Work with external suppliers to generate budgetary quotes for proposed automation systems, upgrades, and project deliverables.
  • Review and contribute to generation of plans for system installation and commissioning.
  • Performs triennial SOP reviews as required.
  • Performs gap analysis of local SOPs against Global Engineering Standards, GQPs, and GQMPs as required.
  • Support key global initiatives such as life cycle management, process data management, alarm management, and cyber security

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelors Degree in Chemical, Electrical, Automation, or Computer Engineering
  • 3 years specialized automation engineering experience utilizing DeltaV or Rockwell PLCs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in DeltaV or Rockwell PLC configuration
  • Experience in Aveva products for data management
  • Understanding of industry standards including ISA S88 Batch controls framework, IEC 61511 Functional Safety standards, and IEC 62443 ICS Cybersecurity standard
  • Previous training/continuing education classes around the topics of DeltaV and Rockwell/Allen Bradley products and software
  • Configuration and life cycle management experience with DeltaV Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) logic
  • Expertise in DeltaV Live graphics configuration
  • Knowledge of virtualized system implementation and management using HyperV
