The Accommodations Coordinator serves as a key member of the larger team of disability services professionals in Student Accessibility Services (SAS) who work with students and campus partners to create an inclusive university experience for students with disabilities through the provision of accommodations, access, and support. The ideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community and have a desire and ability to work with a diverse population. The position will oversee operational aspects of specific accommodations including test proctoring, distribution of adaptive technology, alternate format texts and aspects of the day-to-day operations of Student Accessibility Services. This person meets with students in urgent need who walk into SAS in search of help and will have a small caseload of students with disabilities whom they meet with to engage in an interactive process to determine eligibility, advise about the process of receiving accommodations, make referrals to other resources and campus partners. The Accommodations Coordinator is responsible for website administration and updates. The Accommodations Coordinator is a highly organized individual who has knowledge of academic counseling, classroom accommodations, and assistive technology. The primary purpose of this position is to ensure compliance with the Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the American with Disabilities Amendment Act (2008). This position reports directly to the Director of Student Accessibility Services. Typical hiring range for this position is $46,000 to $53,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications:

Required:

Typically has the education associated with a Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, education or other related field plus three to six years relevant work experience with individual who have a disability.

Strong organizational and problem-solving skills including ability to manage multiple expectations with attention to detail and accuracy.

Experience working effectively with diverse populations and commitment to working from and toward a place of continued cultural competence.

Demonstrated experience effectively utilizing technology including spreadsheets, website development, web forms, and databases.

Familiarity with assistive technology and its uses and relationship to specific disabilities or strong interest in developing these skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills in a variety of environments and situations.

Ability to understand and interpret educational testing, and apply ADA and Section 504 regulations related to the provision of accommodations in a higher education setting.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and listening skills.

Ability to learn new information quickly and easily and strong analytic skills specific to service delivery methods. Ability to exercise independent judgment.

Ability to gather and use data for reporting purposes to support strategic Student Accessibility goals and initiatives.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion. Operational understanding of FERPA policies.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, administrators, faculty, and members of the community.

Preferred:

Master’s degree in higher education, social work, vocational rehabilitation, special education, or equivalent experience in a related field.

Knowledge of adaptive technology and software used by individuals with disabilities

3-5 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities in a higher education setting
